Background: Increasing HIV rates among young Latino sexual minority men (YLSMM) warrant innovative and rigorous studies to assess prevention and treatment strategies. Ecological momentary assessments (EMAs) and electronic pill dispensers (EPDs) have been used to measure antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence repeatedly in real time and in participants' natural environments, but their psychometric properties among YLSMM are unknown.

Objective: The study's objective was to assess the concurrent validity, acceptability, compliance, and behavioral reactivity of EMAs and EPDs among YLSMM with HIV.

Skin cancer risk is increased by exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Because UVR exposure accumulates over time and lighter skin is more susceptible to UVR, age and skin tone are risk factors for skin cancer. However, measurements of somatic mutations in healthy-appearing skin have not been used to calculate skin cancer risk.

Use of venovenous (VV) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in near-fatal asthma: a case series.

Introduction: Status asthmaticus (SA) and near-fatal asthma (NFA) are life-threatening conditions that continue to present a management challenge for physicians. Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) has been employed as a last resort in treating these patients.

Case Presentation: We described six patients who were admitted to the ICU for NFA and received ECMO treatment at a high-complexity institution in Cali, Colombia, between 2015 and 2019.

Metabolic dysfunction is highly prevalent and contributes to premature mortality among people with schizophrenia (PwS), especially in Hispanic/Latino/a/x/e PwS, compared to non-Hispanic White (NHW) PwS. This study evaluated the relative contributions of Mexican descent and schizophrenia diagnosis to metabolic biomarker levels. This cross-sectional study included 115 PwS and 102 non-psychiatric comparison (NC) participants - English-speakers aged 26-66 years, 27% Mexican descent, and 52% women across both groups.

In Argentina, hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) caused by EHEC has the highest incidence in the world. EHEC infection has an endemo-epidemic behavior, causing 20-30% of acute bloody diarrhea syndrome in children under 5 years old. In the period 2016-2020, 272 new cases per year were notified to the National Health Surveillance System.

Barriers and facilitators to retention in care and treatment adherence among racially/ethnically diverse women with HIV in South Florida: a qualitative study.

Women, particularly those from racial/ethnic minority groups, experience disparities in HIV care and treatment, and in achieving viral suppression. This study identified barriers and facilitators influencing retention in HIV care and treatment adherence among women belonging to racial/ethnic minority groups. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 74 African American, Hispanic/Latina and Haitian cisgender women receiving care from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program in Miami-Dade County, Florida in 2019.

Stability of SARS-CoV-2 on the Army Combat Uniform and Recommendations for Cleaning.

SARS-CoV-2 is the virus responsible for the disease that is known as COVID-19. While there have been numerous studies detailing the survival rates of SARS-CoV-2 on various materials, there are currently no published data regarding whether this virus is stable on standard military uniforms. Consequently, there are no standard operating procedures for washing uniforms once exposed to the virus.

The aim of this study was to investigate the genomic features of a carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-hvKp) isolate (K-2157) collected in Chile. Antibiotic susceptibility was determined using the disk diffusion and broth microdilution methods. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and hybrid assembly were performed, using data generated on the Illumina and Nanopore platforms.

A narrative-based approach to understand the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of stranded immigrants in four border cities in Mexico.

Objective: This paper describes the impact that the different COVID-19 related restrictions have had on the mental health and wellbeing of 57 Central American and Caribbean immigrants stranded in Mexico due to the pandemic.

Methods: Ethnographic data was obtained through the application of in-depth interviews centered on topics such as migration history, personal experience with COVID-19 and beliefs about the pandemic. This information was further analyzed through a narrative approach and Atlas Ti.

Examining Barriers to Medication Adherence and Retention in Care among Women Living with HIV in the Face of Homelessness and Unstable Housing.

Despite advances in biomedical treatments, women living with HIV (WLH) who experience homelessness and housing instability suffer suboptimal HIV outcomes, even when linked to treatment. The purpose of this study was to explore experiences of housing instability among WLH and to understand its role in their ability to adhere to antiretroviral medication and remain retained in care. Sixteen women who were linked to Ryan White Program HIV care in South Florida participated in in-depth interviews.

Intestinal mucus-derived metabolites modulate virulence of a clade 8 enterohemorrhagic O157:H7.

The human colonic mucus is mainly composed of mucins, which are highly glycosylated proteins. The normal commensal colonic microbiota has mucolytic activity and is capable of releasing the monosaccharides contained in mucins, which can then be used as carbon sources by pathogens such as Enterohemorrhagic (EHEC). EHEC can regulate the expression of some of its virulence factors through environmental sensing of mucus-derived sugars, but its implications regarding its main virulence factor, Shiga toxin type 2 (Stx2), among others, remain unknown.

The presence of in the vaginal microbiome has been associated with pregnancy complications. In previous works, we demonstrated that Shiga toxin-producing (STEC) can produce abortion and premature delivery in rats and that Shiga toxin type 2 (Stx2) can impair human trophoblast cell lines. The hypothesis of this work was that STEC may colonize the lower female reproductive tract and be responsible for adverse pregnancy outcomes.

It can cause from permanent sequelae to death, mainly in children.
