Background: Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is the gold standard for non-invasive myocardial tissue characterisation. However, accurate segmentation of the left ventricular (LV) myocardium remains a challenge due to limited training data and lack of quality control. Objective: Kawasaki disease (KD) is a systemic vasculitis of young children that can lead to development of coronary artery aneurysms. We aimed to identify diagnostic markers to distinguish KD from other pediatric inflammatory diseases.

Methods: We used the proximity extension assay to profile proinflammatory mediators in plasma samples from healthy pediatric controls (n = 30), febrile controls (n = 26), and patients with KD (n = 23), multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C; n = 25), macrophage activation syndrome (n = 13), systemic and nonsystemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (n = 14 and n = 10, respectively), and juvenile dermatomyositis (n = 9).

Wear of the secondary of the welding gun, caused by mechanical fatigue or due to a bad parameterization of the welding points, causes an increase in quality problems such as non-existent welds or a reduced weld nugget size. In addition to quality problems, this defect causes production stoppages that affect the final cost of the manufactured part. A new spectroelectrochemical two-enzyme sensor system has been developed for the detection of acetaldehyde in wine. A combination of spectroscopy and electrochemistry improves the analytical features of the electrochemical sensor because the optical information collected with this system is only associated with acetaldehyde and avoids the interferents also present in wines as polyphenols. Spectroelectrochemical detection is achieved by the analysis of the optical properties of the K[Fe(CN)]/K[Fe(CN)] redox couple involved in the enzymatic process: aldehyde dehydrogenase catalyzes the aldehyde oxidation using β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydrate (NAD) as a cofactor and, simultaneously, diaphorase reoxidizes the NADH formed in the first enzymatic process due to the presence of K[Fe(CN)].

The focus of the study was to determine the suitability of cattle feedlot manure originating from clay-pack feedlots as a possible feedstock material for dry batch anaerobic digestion. Oedometer tests were carried out that measure the permeability and compressibility of the feedstock under practical conditions experienced in large-scale dry batch anaerobic digestion plants. Material characterization tests showed that feedlot manure was impermeable under compression and therefore unsuitable for percolation.

Enhancement of Raman intensity due to the electrochemical surface-enhanced Raman scattering (EC-SERS) effect is an interesting alternative to overcome the lack of sensitivity traditionally associated with Raman spectroscopy. Furthermore, activation of metallic screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) by electrochemical route leads to the reproducible generation of nanostructures with excellent SERS properties. EC-SERS procedure proposed in this work for the detection of several pesticides (thiram, imidacloprid and chlorpyrifos) with different nature, uses gold SPEs as SERS substrates, but also includes a preconcentration step as the initial and essential stage.

Background: In 2018, Health Canada, the Federal department responsible for public health, put forward a regulatory proposal to introduce regulations requiring a "High in" front-of-package label (FOPL) on foods that exceed predetermined thresholds for sodium, sugars, or saturated fat. Rabies transmitted by common vampire bats () has been known since the early 1900s but continues to expand geographically and in the range of species and environments affected. In this review, we present current knowledge of the epidemiology and management of rabies in and argue that it can be reasonably considered an emerging public health threat. We identify knowledge gaps related to the landscape determinants of the bat reservoir, reduction in bites on humans and livestock, and social barriers to prevention.

Mutations in the Leucine rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) gene are found in both familial and sporadic Parkinson's disease (PD), and are also associated with immune-related disorders including Crohn's disease (CD) and leprosy. We have generated two homozygous LRRK2 knockout human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines using CRISPR-Cas9 in a well-characterized human iPSC clone. The LRRK2 knockout cell lines retained normal morphology, gene expression, and the capacity to differentiate into cell types of the three germ layers.
