The review analyzes the role of atrial fibrillation concurrent with stable manifestations of coronary heart disease when novel oral anticoagulants are used. It gives the results of comparison of the efficacy and safety of warfarin and rivaroxaban in such patients in the large controlled ROCKET-AF trial.

With the problem being insufficiently studied as yet, the majority of therapeutic decisions as to the most efficient and safe methods of administering antithrombotic agents in the clinical situations involved are made based on the results of follow up of the patients, the data regarding peculiarities of the action of therapeutic agents, and common sense. Presented herein are contemporary recommendations on long-term antithrombotic therapy in patients suffering from atrial fibrillation and taking vitamin K antagonists and subjected to coronary stenting.

Methods: We examined 182 patients with diabetes (n=158), impaired glucose tolerance (n=17), or impaired fasting glucose (n=7). We analyzed history, demographic parameters, anthropometric data (body mass index [BMI], waist circumference), levels of plasma high and low density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, degree of glycemic control, and presence of signs of atherosclerosis of other localizations.
Purpose: To compare lipid lowering profile and effects on markers of inflammation of rosuvastatin and fenofibrate in patients with type 2 diabetes with low high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (CH).
Methods: We enrolled into randomized open comparative study 30 pts (20 women) aged 62.5 +/- 7.
Unlabelled: Prognostic significance of heart rate (HR) response to easy to perform provocative maneuvers such as Valsalva maneuver and deep breath requires further elucidation.
Methods: Valsalva maneuver with calculation of Valsalva ratio (VR) and deep breath test with calculation of difference between average maximal and minimal HR during first minute of test (HRD) were performed in 210 patients on days 4-11 of myocardial infarction (MI). This analysis included data from 188 patients (68,1% men, age 34-75 years, 93.
Background: Some evidence exists that heart rate response to simple provocative maneuvers may predict sudden cardiac death (SD) after myocardial infarction (MI). However optimal test has not been not established yet. Aim of this study was to compare prognostic value of different noninvasive reflex tests after MI.

There are simpler methods of assessment of autonomic cardiac control - registration of heart rate response to reflex tests and determination of heart rate variability (HRV) on short ECG recordins. Comparative value for prognosis of SD after myocardial infarction (MI) of these 3 techniques has not been studied yet.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Low heart rate variability (HRV) reflecting predominance of sympathetic tone is an independent predictor of sudden cardiac death after myocardial infarction (MI). We have previously shown that decreased heart rate (HR) response during reflex tests (breathing 6 per minute and Valsalva maneuver at the end of the first week after MI is also associated with elevated risk of sudden death during subsequent 2 years.
Aim: To elucidate relationship between HR response to breathing 6 per minute and Valsalva maneuver, and HRV as standard non-invasive method of assessment of autonomic regulation of the heart.
Data of about 50 consecutive patients with acute coronary syndromes aged at least 18 years admitted to 59 hospitals in different Russian cities were collected from November 2000 to July 2001. In 1412 patients included into registry presumably ischemic symptoms within previous 24 hours were associated with ST-segment elevation or left bundle branch block on ECG. Demographics, history, characteristics of acute coronary syndrome, management and outcomes during hospitalization as well as diagnoses at presentation and discharge were analyzed.

In addition to presumably ischemic symptoms within previous 24 hours they were to have ischemic ECG changes, documented coronary heart disease or positive markers of myocardial necrosis. Of 2806 patients included into registry 1394 (49.

The equipment is convenient for monitoring intraoperatively the functions of pacemaker due to its ability to select an optimal regimen not only for ECG but also for the pulse-wave. The new method of registering the pulse-wave by a miniature fiber-optic pressure sensor is described.

All patients had no signs of severe heart failure, were in sinus rhythm and did not interrupt standard therapy which included beta blockers. Tests were not completed in 14 patients (4.
