Article Synopsis
  • Isolated mediastinal metastases from ovarian cancer are rare and often require systemic therapy, though some studies suggest surgical removal is possible.
  • A review of the literature from 1998 to 2022 identified 15 cases, with most being recurrences of ovarian cancer and various management strategies employed, including surgery and systemic treatments.
  • Close monitoring of thoracic scans in ovarian cancer patients is essential, but due to the limited number of cases, definitive conclusions on treatment efficacy cannot be established.

The article "Comparison of operative and fertility outcomes of single-incision robotic myomectomy: a retrospective single-center analysis of 286 cases" by Kim et al. compares the effectiveness of robotic single-port myomectomy against the traditional multiport approach. The study finds similar operating outcomes, complication rates, and pregnancy rates in expert hands for both methods.

Article Synopsis
  • Extramammary Paget disease (EMPD) is a rare skin cancer often found on vulvar and penoscrotal areas, with its origin and how different types affect treatment still unclear.
  • The study aimed to analyze demographics, tumor traits, and treatment methods for various subtypes of EMPD, relying on data from multiple trusted medical databases.
  • Findings revealed that vulvar EMPD diagnoses are often delayed and have high recurrence rates (34%), while penoscrotal EMPD has a lower recurrence rate (14%) but more cases involve regional or distant spread.*

Paraovarian tumors of borderline malignancy (PTBM) are exceedingly rare, with only slightly over 60 cases reported worldwide. Background: Despite the considerable progress made in recent years in fetal assessment, the etiology of fetal growth disturbances is not as yet well understood. In an effort to enhance our knowledge in this area, we investigated the associations of the amniotic fluid angiotensinogen of the renin-angiotensin system with fetal growth abnormalities.

Methods: We collected amniotic fluid samples from 70 pregnant women who underwent amniocentesis during their early second trimester.

While gynecological malignancies are more commonly diagnosed in elderly women, a substantial proportion of women will still be diagnosed with some type of gynecologic cancer during their reproductive age. Over 10% of newly diagnosed ovarian cancers and over one third of newly diagnosed cervical cancers involve women who are under the age of 45. This, coupled with the rising trend of women having their first child after the age of 35, has led to a concerning prevalence of complex fertility issues among women who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether uterine artery embolization offers a better quality of life than myomectomy in premenopausal women diagnosed with leiomyomas of the uterus.

Data Sources: A literature search was performed using the electronic databases of PubMed and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from inception to January 2023.

Study Eligibility Criteria: Randomized controlled trials comparing uterine artery embolization with myomectomy in women of premenopausal age suffering from uterine leiomyomas were considered.

Müllerian duct anomalies (MDAs) concurrent with endometrial cancer are exceptionally rare, with only a few documented cases. Here, we present a case of endometrial cancer in both horns of a didelphys uterus in a 54-year-old woman with a history of renal cancer, who underwent left radical nephrectomy and left salpingo-oophorectomy. The patient sought medical evaluation due to postmenopausal vaginal bleeding.

Introduction: During the past decade, the theory that high-grade extrauterine pelvic tumors originate from the fallopian tube has been strongly suggested. Our study aims to illuminate the possible role of tubal cytology as an accessory identification tool for gynecologic extrauterine malignancies, allowing in the long term the implementation of population-level cytologic tube evaluation during all benign gynecologic surgeries that do not result in salpingectomy.

Materials And Methods: We ex vivo collect salpingeal epithelial cells from the fibria directly from fresh fallopian tube specimens from women undergoing salpingectomy for any indication.
