[Psychiatric hospital: past, present and prospects].

Academic, clinical, social, economic, organizational and other aspects of psychiatric hospitals are discussed in the main sections of the article: development and current state of medical care, prospect of inpatient care. Main measures for the improvement of the activity of psychiatric hospital, their interaction with outpatient organizations are presented. The necessity of improving the image of a psychiatric hospital is emphasized.

[Actual problems of inpatient psychiatric care in Russia].

A comparative evaluation of inpatient psychiatric care in Russia and some other countries is presented. A systematic analysis of the performance of psychiatric hospitals is conducted. The process of the deinstitutionalization in Russian psychiatry is highlighted.

[Effect of social-economic factors on mental health indices in the population of the Russian Federation in 1992-2008: epidemiological models].

Based on system, correlation and regression analyses of official medical and social/economic information over 1992-2008, we developed epidemiological models linking parameters of morbidity and incidence of mental disorders in the Russia Federation with main medical-demographic and social-economic factors. These models may be used for optimal planning of medical/social programs in the field of mental health protection, its operative monitoring and optimal planning of the structure and activity of the Russian system for psychiatric aid.

[Mental health of world's population: social and economic aspects (a literature review 2000-2010)].

The authors had analyzed current approaches and results of the evaluation of the economic burden of mental health in the world derived from foreign research in 2000-2010. Sources of information were publications of the WHO database and the WHO regional offices, the database of the National Library of Medicine U.S.

[The prediction of outbreaks of posttraumatic stress disorders after large-scale terrorism acts].

Presented is an original computed technology - a mathematic model and software for Windows for operative assessment of outbreaks of posttraumatic stress disorders (PTSD) and prediction of their consequences among victims of terrorism acts. The structure and correlations between the mathematic model and calculating algorithm for the prognosis of PTSD outbreaks are described. The computed program allows to predict a number of mental disorders with further behavior deviations, addictive disorders, personality changes, signs of maladaptation in victims of terrorism acts.

[Head of psychiatric service--a position or a vocation?].

An attempt to create a social and psychological image of contemporary psychiatric department leader has been made. Professional and social activity of a modern head physician, his personal, business and other qualities are described. Taking into account these characteristics, the author suggests a system of competitive selection for this position and a broad discussion of the problem in psychiatric society.

[Genetic identification of rickettsiae of the tick-borne spotted fever group, isolated in the foci of tick-borne rickettsiosis].

A total of 25 rickettsial cultures of the tick-borne spotted fever (TBSF) group from the collection of the Research Institute of Infections in Omsk, isolated from different sources in the territory of the Russian Federation (from the Urals to the Far East) during the period of 1954-2001) were studied by the methods of genetic analysis. The fragments of the gene coding the outer-membrane protein of 190 kD (ompA) and synthetase citrate (gltA) of the rickettsiae under the study were sequenced. 23 isolates were identified as R.

[Methodological bases for problem solution of monitoring and estimation of mental health services activity: national and international aspects].

General principles and questions, concerning the problem of monitoring and evaluation of psychiatric service's work from the points of systemic and mathematic modeling, are considered. An analysis of the structure and parameters values of national psychiatric service is presented. Suggested, are recommendations on using this information and improvement as well its collection, processing and presentation of the results in the national and international aspects.

The consequences of terrorist threat and terrorist acts for mental health of the individual, groups of individuals and community in general are analyzed. Mental disorders emerging in the victims of terrorism is described. The problem of terrorist threats use as a psychic weapon is discussed.

[New evidence for the detection of ehrlichia and anaplasma in ixodes ticks in Russia and Kazakhstan].

Polymerase chain reaction and sequence analysis were used to screen Ehrlichia and Anaplasma DNA in 900 specimens of Ixodes ticks of four genera (Dermacetor, Haemaphysalis, Ixodes, and Hyalomma) collected on 14 administrative territories of Russia and Kazakhstan. Anaplasma phagocytophilia DNA was detected and identified in Ixodes persulcatus ticks gathered in the Altai and Primorye Territories. Ehrlichia muris DNA was genotyped in the I.

[Epidemiology of Ixodes tick-borne borreliosis in the north of the Volga-Viatka region].

Among the territories of the Volga-Vyatka Region of Russia, the Kirov Region is characterized by the highest incidence of Ixodes tick-borne borreliosis. Its incidence rates ranged from 10.5 to 48.

[Detection of Rickettsia hulinii in ticks of the Haemaphysalis concinna species in Russia].

The presence of Rickettsia hulinii was detected in ticks of the Haemaphysalis concinna species in the Asiatic part of Russia. It was the first detection of these rickettsiae outside the territory of the Chinese People's Republic. This tick is spread over a broken area and may occur in different regions of Eurasia.
