Endoscopically-Associated Hairline Approach to Excision of Second Branchial Cleft Cysts.

To improve the treatment outcome and post-operation rehabilitation of patients with second branchial cleft cysts (SBCC), 46 patients were operated for SBCC. 22 patients were operated by conventional approach, 22 patients were operated by original occipital hairline approach and 2 patients were operated via axillary approach. Assessment of intra-operation and post-operation complications was done and comparative evaluation of the preparations of the morphological structure in the main and reference group I was conducted.

[Complications and pitfalls by bone augmentation of maxillary sinus floor].

The article includes description of mistakes and complications occurring during sinus floor elevation procedure, in early post-operate period or late post-operate period. Recommendations have been made to eliminate and prevent their occurrence. The review summarizes data of Russian and foreign literature and our own clinical experience.

[Application of ultrasonography in diagnosis and treatment of acute inflammation of soft tissues in maxillofacial region and neck].

We investigated the value of ultrasonography (USG) and ultrasound-guided aspirations in diagnosis and treatment of acute inflammation of soft tissues in maxillofacial region and neck. We performed 174 USG in 136 patients (73 with abscesses and phlegmons, 27 with acute lymphadenitis, 16 with inflamed cysts, 12 with parotitis, 3 with sialolithiasis and 5 with diseases, simulated acute inflammation). Ultrasound-guided aspirations performed in 35 patients.

[Efficiency rating of various types of implants when placing into the socket of an extracted tooth].

The method of the immediate implantation was used in 138 patients after a tooth (teeth) extraction, with one-phase and two-phase spiral constructions placed in 45 (32.6%) sick people of the control group and with cylindrical and laminar implants with shape-memory effect placed in 93 (67.4%) cases adapted for placement into the socket and through the socket of an extracted tooth of the frontal and masticatory group.

[Up-to-date approach to treatment of inflammatory infections in the maxillofacial region].

Cycloferon, a prospective interferon inductor, and the mechanism of its action were characterized. Its formulation for external use as liniment was developed. The pharmacotherapeutic effect of the drug in the treatment of paradontitis was shown.

[Experimental substantiation of hormone replacing therapy by estrogens in treatment and prevention of inflammatory infectious diseases of maxillo-facial region].

Estrogen play the important role in normal current of inflammatory process. At age oppression of synthesis or at surgical menopause in an organism it is formed estrogen-deficiency syndrome shown in particular, in salivary glands change, loss of a jaw bones, disseminated current of inflammatory processes. For study of hormone replacing estrogen's therapy role in experiment, we determine the influence of transdermal estrogen-consisting systems on structure and function of large salivary glands, density of a bone jaws and current of infectious-inflammatory process in laboratory animals.

[Lymphotropic antibacterial therapy for preventing inflammatory complications of mandibular fractures].

We propose a new method of preventing infectious and inflammatory complications of mandibular fractures crossing the dental arch. The method was based on regional lymphotropic administration of antibacterial drugs to the mastoid region of the temporal bone. This technique was applied in combined therapy of 51 patients.

[The effect of the components of general anesthesia on the level of carcinoembryonic antigen in the blood serum of patients with cancer of the large intestine].

The effect of calipsol and thiopental (the most frequent drugs used for basis anesthesia), as well as their combinations with narcotic analgesics fentanyl, morphine, promedole and a neuroleptic droperidol on the level of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in patients with colonic cancer has been studied. A significant effect of anesthetics on CEA level in the postoperative period has been established. The lowest CEA level was observed when calipsol, morphine, and promedole were used as components of narcotic analgesics.

[Tumor markers--a diagnostic and prognostic test].

Blood levels of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), alpha-fetoprotein, ferritin, ACTH. triiodothyronine and thyroxin were measured by radioimmunoassay in 217 cases of lung, hepatopancreatoduodenal and colonic cancer, 61 patients with nontumor pathology of those sites and in 37 healthy controls. CEA proved the most reliable marker of lung and colonic cancer and tumor-related mechanical jaundice, its lowest concentration in 65-100% of cancer patients exceeding the highest levels observed in controls.

[Determination of carcinoembryonic antigen content as a diagnostic and prognostic test in colorectal cancer].

Of the 120 patients with colorectal cancer, 24 had distant metastases of a tumor. In these patients, increase in the level of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and ferritin in the peripheral blood serum was noted as compared with those in patients without tumor metastases (P less than 0.001).

[The natural killer blood count in patients with breast, colon and rectal cancers].

Blood level of large granular cells was assayed in patients suffering cancer of the breast (30), colon (13) and rectum (34) at various stages of the disease. This level in cancer patients was half as much that in healthy controls. Procedures employed for treatment of the above pathologies were shown to contribute to inhibition of peripheral blood spontaneous cytotoxicity.
