Aim: To determine the effectiveness of extraventricular drainage (EVD) combined with fibrinolytics in reducing morbidity and mortality rates associated with intraventricular cerebral hemorrhage (IVH).

Material And Methods: A literature review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines (PROSPERO registration number: CRD42022332152). Articles were selected from various sources, including PubMed, Trip Database, LILACS, Cochrane Library, and ScienceDirect.

Aims: High grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) is an aggressive tumour, and most patients relapse after treatment, acquiring resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. One of the resistance mechanisms proposed is apoptosis evasion triggered by drug-related cytotoxic effect in the cell. In this context, this study aims to evaluate the protein expression of GRIM-19, NF-κB and IKK2, their association with chemotherapy response and to determine their prognostic values in HGSC.

MiR-223-5p has been previously mentioned to be associated with tumor metastasis in HPV negative vulvar carcinomas, such as in several other tumor types. In the present study, we hypothesized that this microRNA would be important in vulvar cancer carcinogenesis and progression. To investigate this, we artificially mimicked miR-223-5p expression in a cell line derived from lymph node metastasis of vulvar carcinoma (SW962) and performed in vitro assays.

Unlabelled: Vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC) is a rare disease that has a high mortality rate (∼40%). However, little is known about its molecular signature. Therefore, an integrated genomics approach, based on comparative genome hybridization (aCGH) and genome-wide expression (GWE) array, was performed to identify driver genes in VSCC.

Background: Vulvar carcinoma is an infrequent tumour, accounting for fewer than 3% of all malignant tumours that affect women, but its incidence is rising in the past few decades. In young women, the manifestation of the vulvar carcinoma is often linked to risk factors such as smoking and HPV infection, but most cases develop in women aged over 50 years through poorly understood genetic mechanisms. Rho-associated coiled-coil-containing protein kinase 1 (ROCK1) has been implicated in many cellular processes, but its function in vulvar cancer has never been examined.

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) protein expression was assessed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 150 cases of invasive vulvar squamous cell carcinoma. In addition, gene copy number status by fluorescence in situ hybridization was performed in a smaller set of samples. Results were correlated with patient's clinical data and prognostic factors.

Interactions between the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (CDKI) and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in the pathogenesis of vulvar carcinoma are still incomplete. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic relevance of these proteins in vulvar cancer. One hundred and thirty-nine patient specimens assembled in a tissue microarray were evaluated for p16, p21, p27, and pRb by immunohistochemistry.

Background: A meta and pooled analysis of published and unpublished case-control studies was performed to evaluate the association of CYP17 (rs743572) and CYP3A4 (rs2740574) polymorphisms and prostate cancer (PCa) in men from the USA, Caribbean, and Africa.

Methods: Eight publications (seven studies) and two unpublished studies for CYP17 included 1,580 subjects (559 cases and 1,021 controls) and eleven publications and three unpublished studies for CYP3A4 included 3,400 subjects (1,429 cases and 1,971 controls).

Results: Overall, the CYP17 heterozygous and homozygous variants were not associated with PCa, but they confer a 60% increased risk of PCa in a sub-group analysis restricted to African-American men (T/C + C/C, OR: 1.

Purpose: This study was designed to determine the prognostic role of p14ARF in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC).

Methods: Immunohistochemistry for p14ARF and p53 and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) for TP53 were performed in 139 cases of VSCC. Human papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping by hybridization was employed in 100 cases.

Background: Vulvar carcinomas are rare tumors, and there is limited data regarding molecular alterations. To our knowledge there are no published studies on c-KIT and squamous cell carcinomas of the vulva (VSCC). Although there are a significant number of other tumor types which express c-KIT, there remains controversy as to its relationship to patient outcome.

Background/objective: Genetic polymorphisms in cytochrome P-450 (CYPs) and glutathione S-transferase (GSTs) genes can influence the appearance of tumors by the formation of new enzymes with altered activities. In the present study, 5 polymorphic variants were examined in 154 patients with prostate carcinoma and in 154 controls.

Materials And Methods: DNA analysis was carried out through PCR-based methods.

The study of genes involved in androgen pathway can contribute to a better knowledge of prostate cancer. Our aim was to examine if polymorphisms in prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and androgen receptor (AR) genes were involved in prostate cancer risk and aggressiveness. Genotypes were determined by PCR-RFLP (PSA) or using a 377 ABI DNA Sequencer (AR).
