  • Headache is a common symptom in COVID-19, affecting 6.5% to 34% of patients, but previous studies often included unverified cases or focused on severe cases.
  • The study analyzed 24 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients who reported headaches, revealing that the average age was 53.8 years and most had no prior history of headaches.
  • The headaches were mainly bifrontal or holistic, of a pressure quality, typically began early in illness, and worsened with physical activity, but no unique characteristics were found to distinguish them from other headache causes.

Introduction: Postoperative delirium (POD) is a common disorder and its frequency varies from 15% to 25% after major elective surgery. There are few data on the incidence of POD in Brazil. Here, we sought to assess the incidence of POD following transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and to examine precipitating and predisposing factors associated.

The loss of cholinergic transmission is considered to be an important cause of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Treatment with acetyl cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs) shows benefits; however, great heterogeneity has been observed in patient responses. We evaluated apolipoprotein E (APOE) and α7 nicotinic receptor (CHRNA7) single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and associated these SNPs with pharmacological responses to ChEIs in a Brazilian population with AD.

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder and the most common cause of dementia among the elderly. Efforts have been made to understand the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms involved in the development of this disease. As SORL1 (sortilin-related receptor) and SIRT1 (sirtuin 1) genes have been linked to AD pathogenesis, we aimed to investigate their mRNA expression and promoter DNA methylation in post mortem brain tissues (entorhinal and auditory cortices and hippocampus) from healthy elderly subjects and AD patients.
