Background: Evisceration surgery is an important part of an ophthalmologist's skillset but is an uncommon procedure. Therefore, it is important for training ophthalmologists to have adequate knowledge and confidence in this procedure to maximise learning opportunities. Mixed reality involves the intertwining of real and virtual environments and has been used successfully in surgical training.

Model of graphene nanobubble: Combining classical density functional and elasticity theories.

A graphene nanobubble consists of a graphene sheet, an atomically flat substrate, and a substance enclosed between them. Unlike conventional confinement with rigid walls and a fixed volume, the graphene nanobubble has one stretchable wall, which is the graphene sheet, and its volume can be adjusted by changing the shape. In this study, we developed a model of a graphene nanobubble based on classical density functional theory and the elastic theory of membranes.

Study Design: A case of a metastatic melanoma to the vitreous is compared to a case of retinal detachment initially suspected as melanoma metastasis.

VHL gene is often inactivated in sporadic clear cell renal cancer (CCRC) due to somatic mutations, and it's germline mutations cause hereditary CCRC--von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. Localization of mutations in VHL, identification of new mutations and their influence on CCRC progression and sensitivity to targeted therapy are actual problems in modern oncogenetics. We have provided search and characterization of mutations in 248 primary CCRC using SSCP-analysis and sequencing.

[The effect of thyroliberin on the structural characteristics of rat erythrocytes].

The effect of regulatory peptide thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) on the structure of the plasma membrane and morphology of rat erythrocytes was studied using a spin probe and scanning electron microscopy. EPR spectra of the spin probe introduced in the intramembrane space demonstrate that TRH at 10(-7) and 10(-3) M induces structural changes in the erythrocyte membrane. Scanning electron microscopy showed that introduction of TRH at 10(-11), 10(-7), and 10(-3) M in the erythrocyte suspension increased the proportion of discocytes as compared to the control.

[The mononuclear phagocytes and antiviral resistance in pneumonia].

As many as 159 patients with pneumonia (all men aged 18-39) were examined. Functional activity of monocytes was studied in an integral test with nitroblue tetrazolium as was nonspecific cellular antiviral resistance by the level of viral damage to the monocytes and lymphocytes. The progression of pneumonia was found to be accompanied by a decrease in the number of phagocytizing mononuclears and the activity of phagocytosis.
