Background: Evisceration surgery is an important part of an ophthalmologist's skillset but is an uncommon procedure. Therefore, it is important for training ophthalmologists to have adequate knowledge and confidence in this procedure to maximise learning opportunities. Mixed reality involves the intertwining of real and virtual environments and has been used successfully in surgical training.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA graphene nanobubble consists of a graphene sheet, an atomically flat substrate, and a substance enclosed between them. Unlike conventional confinement with rigid walls and a fixed volume, the graphene nanobubble has one stretchable wall, which is the graphene sheet, and its volume can be adjusted by changing the shape. In this study, we developed a model of a graphene nanobubble based on classical density functional theory and the elastic theory of membranes.

Graphene nanobubbles consist of a substance that is trapped between graphene sheets and atomically flat substrates. This substance is an example of confinement in which both the bulk and surface interactions and the tension of the graphene determine the mechanical and thermodynamic properties of the system. The van der Waals pressure build up due to the graphene-substrate attraction and surface influence facilitates the advanced condensation of trapped substances.

The physical state of the substance inside GNBs can vary from the gas phase to crystal clusters. In this paper, we present a theoretical description of the gas-liquid phase transition of argon inside GNBs.

In this paper graphene nanobubbles of the radius of 7-34 nm with argon atoms inside are studied using molecular dynamics (MD). All modeled graphene nanobubbles except for the smallest ones exhibit an universal shape, i.

Study Design: A case of a metastatic melanoma to the vitreous is compared to a case of retinal detachment initially suspected as melanoma metastasis.

Facial nerve baroparesis is a rare and potentially under-reported complication of scuba diving. A diver, after surfacing from a shallow dive, developed isolated left-sided facial palsy accompanied by pain and decreased hearing in the left ear. No other signs or symptoms attributable to a scuba diving accident were detected.

Instances of the synergistic activity ofpermethrin when combined with enzyme system inhibitors have been identified. The synergic ratios were 3.

Localization of mutations in VHL, identification of new mutations and their influence on CCRC progression and sensitivity to targeted therapy are actual problems in modern oncogenetics. We have provided search and characterization of mutations in 248 primary CCRC using SSCP-analysis and sequencing.

The analysis of the published experimental and clinical data on chemoprophylaxis and chemotherapy of rickettsiosis and Q fever confirmed the preserved role of doxycycline, the main drug of choice in the treatment of the diseases, then followed chloramphenicol. Macrolides, such as azithromycin and clarithromycin proved to be useful in pediatric practice and the treatment of pregnant women with rickettsiosis. The treatment of acute and chronic Q fever required the use of doxycycline, fluoroquinolobes, co-trimoxazole and hydroxachloroquine in combined therapy.

The effect of regulatory peptide thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) on the structure of the plasma membrane and morphology of rat erythrocytes was studied using a spin probe and scanning electron microscopy. EPR spectra of the spin probe introduced in the intramembrane space demonstrate that TRH at 10(-7) and 10(-3) M induces structural changes in the erythrocyte membrane. Scanning electron microscopy showed that introduction of TRH at 10(-11), 10(-7), and 10(-3) M in the erythrocyte suspension increased the proportion of discocytes as compared to the control.

High effectiveness of C.burnetii strain M-44 was confirmed in experimental studies on subcutaneously immunized guinea pigs ¿correction of pig] after their intratracheal infection with the virulent culture of the infective agent. The study revealed that the dose necessary for the enteral immunization of guinea pigs and monkeys was 10(4.

Functional activity of monocytes was studied in an integral test with nitroblue tetrazolium as was nonspecific cellular antiviral resistance by the level of viral damage to the monocytes and lymphocytes. The progression of pneumonia was found to be accompanied by a decrease in the number of phagocytizing mononuclears and the activity of phagocytosis.
