Background: Tooth impaction is a common problem in orthodontic practice and in some cases accompanied by pain and pathological changes of surrounding teeth. Understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying tooth impaction allows finding the most effective orthodontic treatment for patients with impacted teeth (IT). RANK (receptor activator of NF-κB) / RANKL (RANK ligand) / OPG (osteoprotegerin) signaling pathway controls bone resorption and may be involved in the regulation of tooth eruption.

Loss of Homogentisate 1,2-Dioxygenase Activity in Bacillus anthracis Results in Accumulation of Protective Pigment.

Melanin production is important to the pathogenicity and survival of some bacterial pathogens. In Bacillus anthracis, loss of hmgA, encoding homogentisate 1,2-dioxygenase, results in accumulation of a melanin-like pigment called pyomelanin. Pyomelanin is produced in the mutant as a byproduct of disrupted catabolism of L-tyrosine and L-phenylalanine.

[Antibodies to Hsp60 in newborn babies, to whom during the intervention for critical inborn heart failure, autologous cord blood was transfused, in early and late postoperative period].

The titre of antibodies to Hsp60 (heat shock protein) enhancement in the blood serum is considered a biological marker of poor state of organism. Comparative investigation was done on the antibodies titre to Hsp60 in the blood serum of a newborn babies, suffering critical inborn heart failure, to whom autologous cord blood or the donor's blood components was transfused, in early and remote postoperative period. In early postoperative period the lowering of the antibodies titre to Hsp60 in the blood serum was observed in comparison with them preoperatively, in a late period (in 2 yrs) in all the blood serum samples investigated antibodies to Hsp60 were not revealed.

[From symmetries to the laws of evolution. I. Chirality as a means of active media stratification].

Features of the hypothetical evolution of a hierarchy of chiral objects formed by active media are discussed. On the basis of experimental facts a new synergetic generalization is made: an evolving system can repeatedly broaden the spectrum of its symmetry types within one level of organization which increases its complexity and change the sign of chirality during transition to a higher level. Switching the chirality sign of macroscopic objects provides irreversibility of stratification.

The plasm welding of the gut organs--perspective trend, which permits to increase the surgeon possibilities in performance of operative intervention. The results of operations, performed on large intestine and stomach, trusts, that it is possible to apply the streams of the high temperature gas plasm for the tissues dissection and connection. There are such advantages of the method, as the operation time shortage, simplicity in manipulating "Plasmomed" apparatus, absence of foreign bodies in the connection zone, high degree of hemostasis achieved.

[Changes in indices of the brain hemodynamics in patients with vertebral artery stenosis during surgical treatment].

Transcranial ultrasound dopplerography was instituted in 38 patients with stenosis of the vertebral artery before surgical management and after reparative operations. Significant decrease in the linear velocity of bloodflow along the vertebral and basilar arteries in the postoperative period has been found to get improved, which fact permitted assessing the efficacy of treatment as positive (good in 39 to 44 percent of cases, satisfactory in 31 to 33 percent). Ultrasound dopplerography techniques allow the characterization of stenosis of the vertebral artery and assessment of efficiency of surgical treatment.

[Surface of the Pacific Ocean and physical mechanisms of prebiological evolution].

The hypothesis about the spontaneous generation of living cell predecessors on the ocean surface during prebiological evolution is further developed. Data obtained in experiments and observations are given that support our point of view. It is shown that the physicochemical properties of the nonequilibrium ocean-atmosphere boundary including ionic asymmetry, fractionation of enantiomers of amino and nucleic acids, and the formation of sealed vesicles provide conditions under which the spontaneous generation seems quite possible.

[Prognosis of pretreatment outcome in patients with acute glomerulonephritis after an immunological review].

Expediency has been shown for the immunological investigation to be done in those patients with acute glomerulonephritis in the nephrosis stage before the start of treatment to find out relevant approaches to such patients. The most informative parameters characterizing immunity include the peripheral blood absolute content T-lymphocytes, relative and absolute content of B-lymphocytes in the peripheral blood, IgA, IgG in blood plasma. However, to prognosticate near term clinical efficiency of treatment with immunodepressive drugs it is essential that all basic indices for the cell-bound and humoral immunity be taken account of.

[Angiographic characteristics of the vertebral arteries stenosis in the cerebral blood circulation insufficiency of vertebrobasilar pool].

[The production of the tumor necrosis factor in an experimental staphylococcal infection].

The paper deals with the study of production of tumour necrosis factor (TNF), the key mediator of inflammation and immune responses of the organism, under experimental and staphylococcus infection (Staphylococcus aureus, st. 209) on mice of C57B16 line. It is established that staphylococcus infection of animals lead to TNF induction.

[The risk factors in assessing the overall and local status of children with congenital cleft upper lip and palate before cheiloplasty].

Assessment of the status of more than 2000 children with cleft lip and palate before cheiloplasty brought the authors to a conclusion that obturators should be used as early as possible in perforating defects in order to allow breast feeding and prevent the progress of the deformation; iron-deficiency anemias, thymomegaly, and virus carrier state are to be timely detected and corrected as well as the concomitant developmental defects in order to prevent the postoperative complications.

[Modes of functioning of an ensemble of discrete active elements in a membrane].

The behaviour of multichannel system as system of cellular automata was investigated. The action of the every channel is a stationary markov process. Computer simulation of the multichannel system demonstrate that according the values of parameters, system demonstrate the various types of behaviour: the weak oscillations about some stationary value, synchronous and chaotic oscillations and beatings.

[Disorders of interferon status in bronchopulmonary diseases in children living under conditions of elevated background radiation].

Impairments in the interferon status of children with chronic and recurring diseases of the respiratory organs were investigated and its correction was shown possible with the use of alpha 2-interferon (reaferon). Suppression of the interferon-producing capacity of the immunocytes was observed in all the cases of the disease aggravation. The level of the suppression correlated with the severity of the infection.

[The efficacy of leukinferon in suppurative-septic diseases].

In the complex of treatment of purulent-septic diseases leukinferon at a dose of 300 IU/kg was used according to the following scheme: 3 injections with the 48 h interval between injections. The effect of leukinferon mainly on the function of neutrophil granulocytes and subpopulation of T-lymphocytes was established. Together with clinico-laboratory data indicative of the effectiveness of treatment, normalization of interferon status and decrease in the level of a circulating factor of tumour necrosis in seriously ill patients was observed.

[The diagnosis of malignant neoplasms of the naso- and oropharynx by using computed magnetic resonance tomography in an ultralow field].

MR tomography examination of 51 patients with maxillofacial or cervical cancer provided adequate diagnostic information especially in the absence of bone involvement. In the cases when current fluctuation through the channels are conditioned by small deformations of its structure parameters of these deformations can be estimated by the autocovariational function of the current (or resistance).

[Interaction of isolated brain synaptic vesicles with flat bilayer membranes in the rat].

The conductivity of planar bilayer membrane comprising asolectin and phosphatidylserine (concentration ratio 9:1) in a buffer solution increased sharply in the presence of synaptic vesicles (SV) isolated from the rat brain and added to one side of the membrane only. The bilayer remained stable upon modification, and the conductivity increment was dependent on SV concentration in the range from 4 to 16 mu of the total protein per ml. If I mM CaCl2 was present in the buffer solution, the conductivity increased by 2 to 3 orders of magnitude upon the addition of SV at a final concentration of 3-4 mu protein per ml.

[Mechanical oscillations and dynamic organization of biomembranes].

Biological membranes are considered as mechanochemical active media. A hypothesis is advanced according to which the biomembranes are dimeric distributed non-equilibrium systems. They provide conjugated functioning of energy transducers by means of mechanical oscillations.
