Multidrug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a pathogenic bacterium that poses a public health concern. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the mode of action of the conventional antibiotic novobiocin, which has been selected as a leading compound for novel antigonococcal drugs. Unlike other previously studied bacteria strains, novobiocin-resistant N.

Reabsorption is performed by SGLT2, which is responsible for about 90%. However, little is known about how renal glucose handling is altered in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

The thiazolyl peptide antibiotic, named thiazoplanomicin, was isolated from the secondary metabolites of the leaf-litter actinomycetes Actinoplanes sp. MM794L-181F6 by extraction with n-butanol, silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, and preparative HPLC.

Case Summary: A 78-year-old woman presented with chest pain and cold sweats 2 days after surgery for lung cancer. Acute coronary syndrome was suspected based on her symptoms, electrocardiography, transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), and laboratory data; thus, emergency catheterization was performed.
Tendon exhibits the capacity to be stretched and to return to its original length without suffering structural damage in vivo, a capacity known as elastic recoil. Collagen fibres are aligned longitudinally and elastin fibres mostly run parallel to collagen fibres in tendon. However, their interactions and contributions to tendon elastic behaviours are not well understood.

In older patients, treatment decisions should consider recurrence rates and tolerability, as well as functional prognosis, residual disease, and social factors. This study aims to investigate factors, including social background, influencing implementation of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in older patients undergoing curative resection for colorectal cancer.

We screened antibiotics using a highly drug-sensitive P. aeruginosa strain and an oligotrophic medium, and successfully isolated novel antibiotics, namely cycloimidamicins (CIMs), from a rare actinomycete strain, Lentzea sp.

Ionic conductivity at room temperature has been improved by using poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) diacrylate (PEGDA) to form three-dimensional (3D) networks and solvated ionic liquids. However, the effects of the molecular weight of PEGDA on ionic conductivities and the relationship between ionic conductivities and network structures of cross-linked polymer electrolytes have not been discussed in detail.

This study aimed to evaluate the risk factors for anastomotic leakage, including nutritional and immunological indices, following rectal cancer resection.
Methods: This study used a multicenter database of 803 patients from the Hiroshima Surgical study group of Clinical Oncology who underwent rectal resection with stapled anastomosis for rectal cancer between October 2016 and April 2020.
Purpose: There is no consensus on the safety and effectiveness of adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with stage III colorectal cancer (CRC) aged ≥ 80 years. We conducted a prospective multi-institutional phase II study of uracil-tegafur and leucovorin (UFT/LV) as adjuvant chemotherapy in this population.
Patients And Methods: Patients with stage III CRC aged ≥ 80 years who underwent curative resection were enrolled.
Cowden syndrome is characterized by several clinical features related to tumorous lesions primarily consisting of systemic hamartomas. The mutation of a tumor suppressor gene, the gene, is etiologically involved. As gastrointestinal lesions, polyps of all digestive tracts involving the esophagus to rectum develop.

Peripheral T lymphocytes, especially regulatory T cells (Tregs), are known to infiltrate into ischemic brain and play a crucial role in modulation of inflammatory response there. We previously reported that transplantation of vascular endothelial cells generated from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iVECs) ameliorated white matter infarct.

In this study involving mice with ischemic lower limbs, whether daily oral administration of RTA-dh404, which is an activator of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) with antioxidant activity, could reduce oxidative stress in the limbs and suppress apoptosis of adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRCs) injected in the limbs, eventually augmenting neovascularization in the limbs, was evaluated. The tissue expression of Nrf2 and concentrations of total antioxidant capacity and superoxide dismutase in the mice ischemic limbs were higher in the RTA-dh404-treated mice than in the control treated mice, and oxidative stress in the limbs of the RTA-dh404 treated mice was decreased.

Methods: Our narrative review was conducted on randomized control studies assessed with TRAQ for outcome measurement before and after the interventions. We included all patients with chronic diseases.
The gut microbiota was reported to differ between children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and typically developing (TD) children, and dysbiosis of the gut microbiota in preterm infants is common. Here, we explored the characteristics of gut microbiota in children born preterm with ASD. We performed 16S rRNA gene sequencing using stool samples from ASD children born preterm and TD children born preterm.

This study aimed to clarify the factors that facilitate and prevent healthcare transition from pediatric to adult care by conducting a questionnaire survey among medical professionals.
Subjects: The survey included 81 medical professionals nominated by an association of families of 5p- patients in Japan.
Background: The mechanism of allergic reactions to COVID-19 mRNA vaccines has not been clarified. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a potential antigen in the components of vaccines. However, there is little evidence that allergy after COVID-19 mRNA vaccination is related to PEG.

A 44-year-old man presented with a 10 mm subepithelial tumor in the HF near the ascending colon on colonoscopy. The lesion had a smooth surface without erosion.
