Background: The efficacy and safety of bimekizumab (BKZ), an inhibitor of interleukin (IL)-17F in addition to IL-17A, has been established in axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). Early assessment of new bone formation is possible using F-fluoride positron emission tomography-computerised tomography (PET-CT) imaging to quantitatively monitor osteoblastic activity.

Objectives: This exploratory study, initiated before phase IIb/III studies, assessed the efficacy and safety of BKZ in patients with radiographic (r-)axSpA and its effect on new bone formation.

Novel Strategy for Strengthening Dermatoporotic Skin by Managing Cellular Senescence.

Background: Dermatoporosis (DP) is a condition associated with thinning skin layers and resultant fragility. Much of the thinning is related to fibroblast dysfunction, production of destructive inflammatory cytokines, breakdown of the extracellular matrix (ECM), and weakening of the dermo-epidermal junction. A major contributor to this change in the ECM milieu, previously under-considered, is cellular senescence, particularly involving the papillary dermal fibroblasts.

Immune phenotyping in a pediatric multicenter transplant study: Suitability of a preformulated dry-antibody panel system.

Flow-cytometric immune phenotyping is influenced by cryopreservation and inter-laboratory variability limiting comparability in multicenter studies. We assessed a system of optimized, pre-mixed dry-antibody panel tubes requiring small amounts of whole blood for validity, reliability and challenges in a Canadian multicenter study (POSITIVE) with long-distance sample shipping, using standardized protocols. Thirty-seven children awaiting solid-organ transplant were enrolled for parallel immune-phenotyping with both validated, optimized in-house panels and the dry-antibody system.

Phytochemical Screening and Antibacterial Activity of Commercially Available Essential Oils Combinations with Conventional Antibiotics against Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria.

The present study aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity of five commercially available essential oils (EOs), Lavender (LEO), Clove (CEO), Oregano (OEO), Eucalyptus (EEO), and Peppermint (PEO), against the most-known MDR Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria- (ATCC 25923), (ATCC 25922), and (ATCC 27853)-alone and in various combinations. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis established their complex compositions. Then, their antibacterial activity-expressed as the inhibition zone diameter (IZD) value (mm)-was investigated in vitro by the diffusimetric antibiogram method, using sterile cellulose discs with Ø 6 mm impregnated with 10 µL of sample and sterile borosilicate glass cylinders loaded with 100 µL; the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value (µg/mL) for each EO was calculated from the IZD values (mm) measured after 24 h.

Accidental hypothermia in the largest emergency hospital in North-Eastern Romania.

Introduction: Accidental hypothermia (AH) presents a significant mortality risk, even in individuals with good health. Early recognition of the parameters associated with negative prognosis could save more lives.

Methods: This was a pilot, retrospective observational study, conducted in the largest Emergency Hospital in North Eastern Romania, which included all patients with AH (defined as body temperature below 35°C), hospitalized and treated in our hospital between 2019 and 2022.

According to the latest international resuscitation guidelines, extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) involves the utilization of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in specific patients experiencing cardiac arrest, and it can be considered in situations where standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts fail if they have a potentially reversible underlying cause, among which we can also find hypothermia. In cases of cardiac arrest, both witnessed and unwitnessed, hypothermic patients have higher chances of survival and favorable neurological outcomes compared to normothermic patients. ECPR is a multifaceted procedure that requires a proficient team, specialized equipment, and comprehensive multidisciplinary support within a healthcare system.

Essential oils (EOs) have gained economic importance due to their biological activities, and increasing amounts are demanded everywhere. However, substantial differences between the same essential oil samples from different suppliers are reported-concerning their chemical composition and bioactivities-due to numerous companies involved in EOs production and the continuous development of online sales. The present study investigates the antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of two to four samples of five commercially available essential oils (Oregano, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Clove, and Peppermint oils) produced by autochthonous companies.

Comparative Study of Useful Compounds Extracted from by Green Extraction.

Essential oils were obtained from different parts of () plants by means of extraction: green extraction using hydro-distillation (HD) and bio-solvent distillation, BiAD, discontinuous distillation, and supercritical fluid extraction, in two stages: (1) with CO, and (2) with CO and ethanol co-solvent. The extraction yields were determined. The yield values varied for different parts of the plant, as well as the method of extraction.

Development of the Romanian Radar Sensor for Space Surveillance and Tracking Activities.

The constant increase in the number of space objects and debris orbiting the Earth poses risks to satellites and other spacecraft, both in orbit and during the launching process. Therefore, the monitoring of space hazards to assess risk and prevent collisions has become part of the European Space Policy and requires the establishment of a dedicated Framework for Space Surveillance and Tracking (EU SST) Support. This article presents the CHEIA SST Radar, a new space tracking radar sensor developed and installed in Romania with the purpose of being included in the EU SST sensor network and of contributing to the joint database of space objects orbiting the Earth.

Uncommon Association of Mckittrick-Wheelock Syndrome and Infection in Acute Renal Failure.

We present the case of a 71-year-old male who suffered an episode of acute renal failure caused by the uncommon association of two different diseases ( infection and McKittrick-Wheelock syndrome). He presented with hypovolemic shock, severe hypokalemia, hyponatremia, metabolic acidosis and acute renal failure; consequences of secretory diarrhea caused by a giant rectal tumor revealed from colonoscopy. The biopsy results revealed tubulo-villous adenoma with low/high grade dysplasia.

Personalized nuclear imaging protocol in cases with nodular goiter and parathyroid adenoma.

A 62 years old woman was diagnosed with multinodular toxic goiter and primary hyperparathyroidism/left parathyroid adenoma by hormonal assessment, ultrasound and nuclear thyroid/parathyroid scans. Cervical ultrasound illustrated a multinodular aspect of the thyroid with solid nodules and cystic-component nodules; the larger one represented a multinodular complex with necrosis areas in the left thyroid lobe, ACR TI-RADS score 4 (moderately suspicious). Functional nuclear imaging was performed for accurate differential diagnosis between thyroid .

Alterations in the immune phenotype of thymectomized children and the development of atopic disorders after heart transplantation.

Background: Atopic disorders are more common in children after heart transplant (HTx). We hypothesized that HTx at an early age and thymus excision (TE) affect development of T and B cells, especially regulatory T cells (Tregs), which help maintain tolerance.

Methods: In this single-center study including 24 patients transplanted between 2013 and 2018, we investigated lymphocyte patterns in relation to these factors using flow cytometry.

Uterine torsion is a rare surgical emergency that can evolve with ischemic lesions of the genital organs. We present a case of a 59 year-old woman who was hospitalized with important abdominal pain and modified general status. On clinical examination, a giant abdominal mass was found, and bimanual genital palpation could not find the cervix but revealed tension in the vaginal walls.

Cephalic undifferentiated carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells arising from the main pancreatic duct: case report and literature review.

Undifferentiated carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cell (UCOGC) is a ductal carcinoma variant with a recently reported more protracted survival and pathognomonic histology comprising two cell populations: the mononuclear tumoral cells and nontumoral multinucleated giant cells. It usually presents as a large heterogenic tumor with mixed solid-cystic components. The tumor develops from the ductal epithelium but the sequence of epithelial changes is often not identified due to the rapid tumoral growth and associated necrotic changes.
