Quantitative profile of cardiolipin and group treponemal IgD antibodies in syphilis estimated by single radial immunodiffusion technique (SRID).

150 serum samples (reactive in VDRL, Reiter-ELISA, FTA-Abs tests), from male patients 25-45 years old, in various stages of syphilis whether treated or untreated, were tested for IgD by SRID. On 154 sera from healthy males 25-45 years old, the reference normal values for IgD levels were established, as: 0-131.2 IU/ml with a mean of 29.

[Edentation of the 6-year molar tooth. Clinical aspects and treatment].

The problem of the 6 year molar tooth edentation has been approached from an unilateral point of view. The present paper deals with the complex factors that contribute to the onset and evolution of the 6 year molar tooth edentation. The group studied included 2000 subjects making it possible to establish the frequency of the affection in terms of age, general condition of the body environmental factors, caries prevention, out-patient follow up, previous dental treatment.

[A procedure for improving the stability of the total mandibular prosthesis with the aid of the muscular factor in the marked atrophies of the mandibular crest].

The study aimed to define factors involved in improving the stability of total mandibular prostheses by the use in optimal conditions of the muscular factor. This is achieved with a special method for casting of the neutral space which allows to prepare the external surface and to place the artificial dental arc according to objective functional criteria. In the first part of the study notions are discussed related to the practical solution of the problem, such as: the anatomo-functional study of formations which define the neutral space, aspects of the neutral space in the total edentate, and the conformation of total prostheses, as well as the placing of the artificial dental arcs in relation to the neutral space.

Uterine microcurettage with combined endometrial histopathology and cytology. An alternative to conventional curettage.

A new disposable mechanical curette, the Inocurette, was used to obtain endometrial samples for histopathology and cytology. The instrument was tested on 120 patients; 37 patients were known from a previous conventional curettage (D & C) to have an endometrial cancer and 83 patients were referred to the County Hospital of Trelleborg for curettage because of dysfunctional bleedings. In all 120 patients a D & C followed the microcurettage procedure.

Use of an ion-selective membrane electrode for the determination of the active components in intestopan.

The conditions for the determination of broxyquinoline and brobenzoxaldine, the active components of "Intestopan", by use of ion-selective membrane electrodes are described. Broxyquinoline is determined directly through precipitation with CuSO(4), and brobenzoxaldine is first hydrolysed in alkaline solution and the product precipitated with CuSO(4). In both cases the CuSO(4) in excess is determined by potentiometric titration at pH 5.

Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) applications in chemical carcinogenesis. III. QSAR analysis of some phenolic antioxidants.

Quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) were formulated for a series of 22 phenolic inhibitors of carcinogenesis, taking into account: a) the inhibition of forestomach tumor induction in benzo(a)pyrene fed mice, as biological parameter and b) minimal topological differences (MTD), lipophilicities, quantum mechanic indices (epsilon LE, epsilon HO, and delta E1) and Hammett constants, as structural and physicochemical ones. Significant multilinear regression equations were found for a set of 22 compounds, two 2,6-di-tert-butyl derivatives (4 and 22) diverting from the general correlations. The obtained correlations support the conclusion that the antioxidizing potential is not directly responsible (in a rate determining step) for the inhibitory properties of the investigated phenols.
