Background: Early rehabilitation allows patients to better perform the activities of daily living after hospital discharge. A specialized physical therapist has been assigned as part of the early rehabilitation, but the effectiveness of the program remains unclear. We investigated how early rehabilitation provided by a specialized physical therapist affects ADL in patients with sepsis.

Contrast-enhanced computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging is recommended for definitive diagnosis of hepatic hemangioma. However, these modalities have drawbacks in terms of radiation exposure, invasiveness, and high cost for examination.

Methods: We enrolled 595 anterior circulation LVO or stenosis with NAVF cases from 38 stroke centers.
Background/aim: Easy measurement of liver steatosis without pathological diagnosis may help improve donor surgery efficiency and increase the chances of organ donations. We analyzed the correlations between bioelectrical impedance (BI) in human livers, liver fat content, and pathological findings.
Materials And Methods: Sixteen tumor-free liver specimens resected during elective oncological surgery were analyzed.
Transabdominal ultrasound (TAUS) is useful in all aspects of lesion screening, monitoring activity, or treating/diagnosing any related complications of inflammatory bowel disease. Its ability to screen or diagnose complications is almost the same as that of other methods, such as CT or MRI. Moreover, its noninvasiveness makes it a first-line examination method.

Methods: A total of 144 and 328 consecutive patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, respectively, were analyzed.
Results: Patients with T1a invasive intraductal papillary mucinous carcinoma comprised 25% (11/44) of the overall subject population with invasive intraductal papillary mucinous carcinoma with 5-year disease-specific survival rate being 100%.
Background: Endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke is generally avoided when the infarction is large, but the effect of endovascular therapy with medical care as compared with medical care alone for large strokes has not been well studied.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter, open-label, randomized clinical trial in Japan involving patients with occlusion of large cerebral vessels and sizable strokes on imaging, as indicated by an Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomographic Score (ASPECTS) value of 3 to 5 (on a scale from 0 to 10, with lower values indicating larger infarction). Patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive endovascular therapy with medical care or medical care alone within 6 hours after they were last known to be well or within 24 hours if there was no early change on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery images.
Background/aim: The laparoscopic approach is not widely used for gallbladder tumours because of the high degree of malignancy associated with gallbladder cancer and technical difficulties. This study aimed to clarify the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic gallbladder resection for gallbladder tumours.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective study enrolled patients who underwent laparoscopic whole-layer cholecystectomy or laparoscopic gallbladder bed resection for gallbladder tumours between April 2010 and December 2020.
In the treatment of an intracranial aneurysm with the flow diverter, the combined use of coil embolization can help promote subsequent progressive thrombosis within the aneurysm sac and reduce the risk of delayed aneurysm rupture. This study retrospectively reviewed outcomes of patients who had undergone the Pipeline Embolization Device (PED) with adjunctive coil embolization (PED/coil) at a single center to determine its safety and efficiency. Patients with internal carotid artery aneurysms following an intradural component were selected for PED/coil between 2015 and 2020.

We undertook a Phase I clinical trial to investigate the safety, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of DS-1040 in Japanese patients who were eligible for thrombectomy following AIS.
Methods: The trial enrolled patients with AIS due to large vessel occlusion, who were planned for thrombectomy within 8 h of symptom onset.
Microorganisms can adopt a quiescent physiological condition which acts as a survival strategy under unfavorable conditions. Quiescent cells are characterized by slow or non-proliferation and a deep downregulation of processes related to biosynthesis. Although quiescence has been described mostly in bacteria, this survival skill is widespread, including in eukaryotic microorganisms.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn disease (CD) have different inflammatory mechanisms; this study aimed to quantitatively measure and compare the spleen volumes between patients with UC and CD and examine the relationship between spleen volume and disease activity in both.We retrospectively analyzed 44 patients with IBD aged 30-60 years (UC group, n = 24; CD group, n = 20).

It is associated with poor prognosis and increases the risk of disease recurrence. Specific findings on MRI (termed MRI-EMVI) are reportedly associated with pathological EMVI.

However, the impact of FPE on the prognosis has not been assessed for Japanese patients with various degrees of independence before the onset of LVO. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic effects of FPE in a comprehensive stroke center in Japan, which includes patients in a variety of self-independence states with different comorbidities before stroke onset.

We report a case of acute mitral regurgitation (MR) due to PMR with pulmonary edema and cardiogenic shock following AMI with small myocardial necrosis. We conducted this study because of the limited research comparing the risks of ERCP-related complications between these two groups.
Methods: This retrospective study involved 1491 patients with native major duodenal papilla diagnosed with choledocholithiasis at three institutions in Japan.
An organic ligand-free aqueous-phase synthesis of copper (Cu) nanoparticles (NPs) under an air atmosphere was successfully achieved by reducing copper(II) oxide particles with a leaf-like shape in the presence of Ni salts at room temperature. The resulting Cu NPs with a mean particle diameter of ca. 150 nm exhibited low-temperature sintering properties due to their polycrystalline internal structure and ligand-free surface.

Somy variation within clonal populations was previously explored in a small subset of chromosomes using fluorescence hybridization methods. This phenomenon, termed mosaic aneuploidy (MA), might have important evolutionary and functional implications but remains under-explored due to technological limitations.

We found that increased lactate, but not glucose concentration, enhances the spiking activity of neurons of the cerebral cortex. Enhanced spiking was dependent on ATP-sensitive potassium (K) channels formed with KCNJ11 and ABCC8 subunits, which we show are functionally expressed in most neocortical neuronal types.
