Article Synopsis
  • Mentha arvensis, also known as peppermint, was studied for its toxic and repellent effects using essential oil (MaEO) on the cockroach Nauphoeta cinerea at various concentrations.
  • The study utilized gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify major compounds in MaEO, revealing that menthol is the predominant component at 71.31%.
  • Results showed that MaEO decreased oxidative stress markers like lipid peroxidation and non-protein thiols, while key compounds indicated potential analgesic properties through molecular docking studies.

Purpose: Total skin electron therapy (TSET) is a complex radiotherapy technique, posing challenges in commissioning and quality assurance (QA), especially due to significant variability in patient body shapes. Previous studies have correlated dose with factors such as obesity index, height, and gender. However, current treatment planning systems cannot simulate TSET plans, necessitating heavy reliance on QA methods using standardized anthropomorphic phantoms and in-vivo dosimetry.

Protein solubility prediction is useful for the careful selection of highly effective candidate proteins for drug development. In recombinant proteins synthesis, solubility prediction is valuable for optimizing key protein characteristics, including stability, functionality, and ease of purification. It contains valuable information about potential biomarkers or therapeutic targets and helps in early forecasting of neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and cardiovascular disorders.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant disorder that is caused by a mutation in the NF1 gene, which is located on chromosome 17q11.2, which encodes for a protein known as "Neurofibromin", which acts as an inhibitor of oncogene RAS. This gene mutation causes tumours to grow on nerves which results in other systemic abnormalities such as skin changes, bone and eye abnormalities, hormonal imbalances, and diversity in achievement of puberty with neurologic complications.

  • Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS) is a serious condition in babies where the stomach can't empty properly due to thickened muscles.
  • This study looked at how well treatment works for IHPS in children and what factors affect their recovery.
  • Results showed that a significant number of babies had poor recovery, especially if they waited too long for treatment, had dehydration, or low potassium levels.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists wanted to see if a medicine called sitagliptin could help teens with type 1 diabetes and kidney problems when used with a special diabetes device.
  • They studied 46 teenagers who had diabetes and measured things like how much sugar and protein was in their urine.
  • After 3 months of taking sitagliptin, the teens had lower levels of bad stuff in their urine and better overall diabetes control compared to those who didn’t take the medicine.

Schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia or snail fever, is a tropical parasitic disease resulting from flatworms of the Schistosoma genus. This often overlooked disease has significant impacts in affected regions, causing enduring morbidity, hindering child development, reducing productivity, and creating economic burdens. Praziquantel (PZQ) is currently the only treatment option for schistosomiasis.

A skilled principal is an invaluable asset in the evolving landscape of higher education institutions, where challenges continually arise and the global economy demands adaptability. This study explored the essential skills and knowledge necessary for principal roles in Islamic Economics and Finance (IEF) schools. A qualitative multiple-case study approach was employed, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 34 academics from four IEF schools at public universities in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia.

As sessile drops of aqueous colloidal suspensions dry, a close-packed particle deposit forms that grows from the edge of the drop toward the center. To compensate for evaporation over the solid's surface, water flows radially through the deposit, generating a negative pore pressure in the deposit associated with tensile drying stresses that induce the formation of cracks. As these stresses increase during drying, existing cracks propagate and additional cracks form, until the crack density eventually saturates.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) presents a substantial health concern on a global scale, driving the search for innovative therapeutic strategies. Phytochemicals from medicinal plants, particularly Ocimum tenuiflorum (Holy Basil), have garnered attention for their potential in T2DM management. The increased focus on plant-based treatments stems from their perceived safety profile, lower risk of adverse effects, and the diverse range of bioactive molecules they offer, which can target multiple pathways involved in T2DM.

Across the globe, many transport bodies are advocating for increased cycling due to its health and environmental benefits. Yet, the real and perceived dangers of urban cycling remain obstacles. While serious injuries and fatalities in cycling are infrequent, "near misses"-events where a person on a bike is forced to avoid a potential crash or is unsettled by a close vehicle-are more prevalent.

The present study aimed to develop and optimize solidified supersaturated self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) for the combined administration of antihypertensive, antihyperglycemic, and antihyperlipidemic drugs to enhance their solubility and dissolution during the treatment of metabolic syndrome. Various SNEDDS formulations were prepared and subjected to pharmaceutical assessment. The solubility of candesartan (CC), glibenclamide (GB), and rosuvastatin (RC) in SNEDDS and supersaturated SNEDDS formulations was evaluated.

Background: It has been described in mice models that myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) with JAK2-V617F mutation has an increased expression of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) in megakaryocytes leading to cancer immune evasion by inhibiting the T-lymphocytes.

Aims: To quantify and compare the PD-L1 expression on bone marrow (BM) of patients with MPN JAK2 positive, negative, and normal controls.

Methods: We collected BM of patients with MPN JAK2 positive, negative and normal controls from 1990 to 2019.
