This study investigates the electrochemical degradation mechanisms of nickel-salen (NiSalen) polymers, with a focus on improving the material's stability in supercapacitor applications. We analyzed the effects of steric hindrance near the nickel center by incorporating different bulky substituents into NiSalen complexes, aiming to mitigate water-induced degradation. Historical topographical maps contain valuable, spatially and thematically detailed information about past landscapes. Yet, for analyses of landscape dynamics through geographical information systems, it is necessary to "unlock" this information via map processing. Omitting outcomes of importance to patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and their caregivers from trials can impede decision-making based on patient-centered outcomes. As part of the global Standardized Outcomes in Nephrology - Chronic Kidney Disease (SONG-CKD) initiative, we aimed to establish a consensus-based set of core outcomes for trials in CKD (prior to the need for kidney replacement therapy). Sensory evoked potentials (EPs), namely, somatosensory, visual, and brainstem acoustic EPs, are used in neurosurgery to monitor the corresponding functions with the aim of preventing iatrogenic neurological complications. Functional deficiency usually precedes structural defect, being initially reversible, and prompt alarms may help surgeons achieve this aim. However, sensory EP registration requires presenting multiple stimuli and averaging of responses, which significantly lengthen this procedure.

We report the use of the Harms trabeculotome to facilitate 360° microcatheter advancement during illuminated microcatheter-assisted circumferential trabeculotomy (IMCT) ab externo in a 3-month-old infant with bilateral primary congenital glaucoma who required repeat surgery. The illuminated microcatheter was advanced 270°, from 9 to 6 o'clock; however, a focal blockage occurred, and, despite viscodilation, further advancement was not possible. The surgeon introduced a right Harms trabeculotome in the opposite direction, counterclockwise through the same scleral flap.

Purpose Of The Report: Adults with Down Syndrome (DS) have a substantially increased risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD) due to the triplicated amyloid-precursor-protein gene on chromosome 21, resulting in amyloid and tau accumulation. However, tau PET assessments are not sufficiently implemented in DS-AD research or clinical work-up, and second-generation tau tracers such as [F]PI-2620 have not been thoroughly characterized in adults with DS. The regular workshops held by the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) on biology-inspired microphysiological systems (MPS) taking place every four years, have become a reliable measure to assess fundamental scientific, industrial and regulatory trends for translational science in the MPS-field from a bird's eye view. The 2023 workshop participants at that time concluded that the technology as used within academia has matured significantly, underlined by the broad use of MPS and the steadily increasing number of high quality research publications - yet, broad industry adoption of MPS has been slow, despite strong interest. Academic research using MPS primarily aims to accurately recapitulate human biology in MPS-based organ models in areas where traditional models have been lacking key elements of human physiology, thereby enabling breakthrough discoveries for life sciences.
