A green synthesis method is proposed for the preparation of nitrogen-doped multiporous carbons (denoted as N-MPCs) from water-caltrop shell (WCS) using eggshell waste as both a nitrogen-dopant and an activating agent. A series of unique tunable aryl-imidazolium magnetic ionic liquids (MILs) with dual acidity that contain both Brønsted and Lewis acidic sites (abbreviated as B-L MILs) were synthesized and characterized using nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometry. Lycii Fructus, a solanaceous drug, is widely used as functional foods and in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The high thermal stability of the Lewis acidic ZnCl-1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid enables the in situ fabrication of hierarchical nanostructured Pd-Au bimetallic surfaces via electrochemical alloying/dealloying of (PdAu)Zn on PdAu substrate in the ionic liquid. Nanostructured PdAu samples that consist of patterned cracks and ligaments are fabricated by using potential cycling method and constant-potential electrolysis method, respectively. The effects of working temperature and amounts of the deposited Zn on the morphology of the dealloyed (PdAu)Zn nanostructure are examined.

The goal of this study is to investigate associations between subjective memory complaint and objective cognitive performance in older people with previous major depression-a high-risk sample for cognitive impairment and later dementia. The electrodeposition of aluminium is demonstrated using a eutectic mixture of aluminium chloride and urea. The mixture is shown to be conducting through the formation of both cationic ([AlCl2·urean](+)) and anionic (AlCl4(-)) species and electrodeposition is achieved through the cationic species. The use of a biphasic system with the ionic liquid and a protective hydrocarbon layer allows metal deposition to be carried out in an environment with ambient moisture without the need for a glove box.

This work includes specific basic characterization of synthesized glycine-based Ionic Liquid (IL) [QuatGly-OEt][EtOSO(3)] by NMR, elementary analysis and water content. Thermophysical properties such as density, ρ, viscosity, η, refractive index, n, and conductivity, κ, for the binary mixture of [QuatGly-OEt][EtOSO(3)] with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) [M(w) = 200] are measured over the whole composition range. The temperature dependence of density and dynamic viscosity for neat [QuatGly-OEt][EtOSO(3)] and its binary mixture can be described by an empirical polynomial equation and by the Vogel-Tammann-Fucher (VTF) equation, respectively.

A systematic study of the effect of composition on the thermo-physical properties of the binary mixtures of 1-methyl-3-pentyl imidazolium hexafluorophosphate [MPI][PF(6)] with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) [M(w) = 400] is presented. The excess molar volume, refractive index deviation, viscosity deviation, and surface tension deviation values were calculated from these experimental density, ρ, refractive index, n, viscosity, η, and surface tension, γ, over the whole concentration range, respectively. The excess molar volumes are negative and continue to become increasingly negative with increasing temperature; whereas the viscosity and surface tension deviation are negative and become less negative with increasing temperature.

New organic dyes comprising carbazole, iminodibenzyl, or phenothiazine moieties, respectively, as the electron donors, and cyanoacetic acid or acrylic acid moieties as the electron acceptors/anchoring groups were synthesized and characterized. A nano-structured Co oxide electrode (with a Ni substrate) was successfully prepared using an entirely electrochemical process, which included the co-deposition of a Ni-Cu alloy film, selective etching of Cu from the film, and anodic deposition of Co oxide on the obtained nano-porous Ni substrate which had an average pore size of approximately 100 nm and a pore density of about 10(13) m(-2). The excellent electrochemical activity of the prepared electrode was demonstrated in terms of its pseudocapacitive performance, which was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 1 M KOH solution. The specific capacitance of the nano-structured Co oxide measured at a potential scan rate of 10 mV s(-1) was as high as 2200 F g(-1), which is over ten times higher than that of a flat oxide electrode (209 F g(-1)).
