This study is the first to use reliable data sources to establish a reasonable mass balance of Cr(VI) contamination in river water, sediment, and farmland soil. A system dynamics model was used to establish the interrelationships among water, Cr(VI) contamination, and health effects in the Wu River watershed (between Taichung city and Changhua county) between 2018 and 2048 (30 years). The results show very little Cr(VI) contamination in rivers; most flowed downstream or settled in sediment, and the accumulation of Cr(VI) in the sediment increased throughout the study period.

Data sets with the same number of replicate estimates for each of two treatments are termed "balanced" and those with unequal numbers of replicate estimates are termed "unbalanced". The three assessment methods considered were nearest percent estimates (NPEs), an amended 10% incremental scale, and the Horsfall-Barratt (H-B) scale.

We investigated the association between the -93G-->A polymorphism in the mismatch repair hMLH1 gene for its role in the susceptibility and survival of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Using a case-control study design, 165 NSCLC patients and 193 controls with similar range for age, gender and smoking habit distributions were subjected to genotype analysis.

However, the prognostic significance of hMSH2 gIVS12-6T>C polymorphism (T-C substitution at the -6 intronic splice acceptor site of exon 13) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains unclear. Therefore, we investigated the frequency of hMSH2 gIVS12-6T>C polymorphism in 156 NSCLC patients and 235 cancer-free individuals matched for age, gender and smoking habit.
