Pulse is often understood as a feature of a (quasi-) isochronous event sequence that is picked up by an entrained subject. However, entrainment does not only occur between quasi-periodic rhythms. This paper demonstrates the expression of pulse by subjects listening to non-periodic musical stimuli and investigates the processes behind this behaviour.

Advanced ovarian cancer patients previously treated with platinum-based first-line therapy were enrolled. After PBPC mobilization and harvesting, patients received three consecutive cycles of HDC with PBPC support.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: To assess the usefulness of preoperative tumor grade and intraoperative assessment of gross depth of myometrial invasion as "predictors" of final grade, final depth of myometrial invasion and surgical stage in patients with "low-risk" endometrial cancer.
Methods: We retrospectively compared preoperative histology and intraoperative gross depth of invasion with final pathologic evaluation on hysterectomy specimens. For patients traditionally considered intraoperatively to be "low-risk" for lymph node metastasis (grade 1 or 2 adenocarcinoma with less than 50% myometrial invasion), "predictors" combining preoperative histology and intraoperative gross depth of myometrial invasion were established; that is, a preoperative biopsy of grade 1 adenocarcinoma with an intraoperative gross depth of myometrial invasion of 30% was assigned the predictor IbG1 (Stage Ib, grade 1).
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of microsatellite polymorphisms corresponding to four loci which map to chromosome 17p and 11 loci which map to chromosome 17q was performed to screen for loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in paired normal and tumor tissues from 27 cases of borderline epithelial ovarian tumors (BEOT) and 32 cases of invasive epithelial ovarian cancers (IOC). LOH was observed in six of 27 (22%) of the borderline tumors and in 29 of 32 (90%) of the invasive ovarian cancers (P<0.001).
