Unlabelled: In the absence of maternal thyroid disease or iodine deficiency, fetal goitre is rare and usually attributable to dyshormonogenesis, for which genetic ascertainment is not always undertaken in the UK. Mechanical complications include tracheal and oesophageal compression with resultant polyhydramnios, malpresentation at delivery and neonatal respiratory distress. We report an Indian kindred in which the proband (first-born son) had congenital hypothyroidism (CH) without obvious neonatal goitre.

Long term prognosis of women with gestational diabetes in a multiethnic population.

Aim: To assess the glucose tolerance of South Asian and Caucasian women with previous gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Method: A retrospective follow-up study of 189 women diagnosed with GDM between 1995 and 2001. Glucose tolerance was reassessed by oral glucose tolerance test at a mean duration since pregnancy of 4.

Improved pregnancy outcome in a patient with renal allograft nephropathy undergoing temporary hemodialysis.

We report a case of a woman with a poorly functioning renal allograft and a positive anti-cardiolipin antibody who was dialysis-independent and conceived 18 months following her transplant. She was electively maintained on hemodialysis during the pregnancy and delivered a live infant at 31 weeks gestation. Her renal function returned to prepregnancy levels post partum and she remained dialysis-independent.

Invasive testing for the karyotyping of mid-trimester intrauterine fetal death (IUFD): a pilot study.

Introduction: Aneuploidy remains a common cause of fetal loss after the first trimester. Conventional karyotyping from fetal solid tissues post-delivery unfortunately has a poor success rate particularly where the fetus is macerated. To overcome this we obtained amniocentesis and/or chorionic villus samples from mid-trimester intrauterine fetal deaths (IUFDs) prior to medical termination of pregnancy.
