Examination of 54 patients with aseptic necrosis of the femoral head showed that the most characteristic alterations related to this pathology include vegetative-trophic disturbances in zones of autonomic innervation of neurometamers LIII = LIV. Characteristics of the innervation of the femoral head were studied in man and experimental animals.

A specific reaction was found not only in nervous elements of the motor nuclei, but also in some astrocytes, satellite glial and Schwann cells. AChE activity was demonstrated in satellite cells accompanying both cholinergic and noncholinergic neurons.

Motoneurons were distinguished by the location of AChE in the perinuclear space, on the membranes of the granular reticulum, on the axolemma, neurofilaments and neurotubuli, in the synaptosomes and the synaptic cleft; this evidences for the perinuclear synthesis of this enzyme and its transport within the axoplasm. Their amount reached 40-65% of the whole neuronal population.
