Article Synopsis
  • Patient reported outcomes (PROs) are vital for assessing health-related quality of life in adult patients with congenital heart disease, but they are not well defined for this population.
  • This study aimed to evaluate how well different PRO survey tools could distinguish between patients with Fontan circulatory failure (FCF) and those with simpler shunt lesions.
  • The Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ-12) showed the best ability to identify FCF, and combining it with other PRO tools further improved its effectiveness, suggesting that these measures can help inform management strategies for adult congenital heart disease patients.

Background: The prognostic value of myocardial deformation parameters in adults with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) has not been well-elucidated. We therefore aimed to explore myocardial deformation parameters for outcome prediction in adults with rTOF using cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR).

Methods: Adults with rTOF and at least moderate pulmonary regurgitation were identified from an institutional prospective CMR registry.

Untoward side-effects of chemoradiotherapy were compared in 48 children treated for brain tumors and those in remission lasting from less than 12 months to 11 years. The investigation concerned disturbances in the neurologic, endocrine, cardiovascular, urinary, hepatobiliary and psychic systems; neurologic ones proved the most frequent. No cases of heart failure were reported among patients with brain tumors during remission.
