Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the effectiveness and safety of combining nivolumab, an immunotherapy drug, with chemotherapy in patients with a specific type of metastatic gastric cancer co-expressing FGFR2 and PD-L1.
  • A total of 23 patients were treated, showing a 1-year progression-free survival (PFS) rate of 30.4% and a median overall survival (OS) of 15.1 months, though the primary endpoint of improved 1-year PFS was not achieved.
  • The results highlight the need for future research on patient selection and potential combination therapies to enhance treatment outcomes in this patient population.

The treatment landscape for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has advanced significantly with first-line immunotargeted therapy combinations. However, no statistically significant differences were observed in the cohort of patients with favorable risk and some oncologists continue to use sunitinib in these patients. PD-L1 expression has emerged as a negative prognostic factor in RCC, particularly in sunitinib-treated patients, where higher PD-L1 levels are linked to worse outcomes.

Background: Fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) plays a crucial role in carcinogenesis. Exploring the combination of the novel humanized monoclonal anti-FGFR1 antibody OM-RCA-01 and immunotherapy was intriguing due to involvement of FGFR1 in mechanisms of resistance to checkpoint inhibitors.

Materials And Methods: Lung cancer A549, exhibiting distinct levels of FGFR1 expression, were cultured in basic FGF medium with OM-RCA-01 supplementation.

We assessed the preliminary efficacy and toxicity of intrapleural instillation of nivolumab in patients with large pleural effusion. Patients with metastatic cancers who have a large volume of pleural effusion and required evacuation were eligible. Thoracentesis followed by nivolumab (40 mg, single intrapleural instillation) was performed.
