A table differential diagnosis algorithm has been developed to improve the diagnosis of tuberculosis and lung cancer in tuberculosis institutions. The algorithm proved effective already at the stage of primary antituberculosis aid, being a reliable tool in the diagnosis of lung cancer and tuberculosis, contributing to shorter examinations of patients, earlier administration of adequate treatment.

This algorithm allows to establish precise diagnosis of cancer or tuberculosis of the lungs at district and regional health service levels, enhances the time of diagnosis and favours rational treatment.

The content of trace elements in blood, bronchial lavage fluid from the most affected portions of the lungs, and in pathologic and healthy lung tissues was determined by a C-115 atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The examination findings demonstrated that the content of blood serum ferric zinc and magnesium, and erythrocyte zinc, manganese, potassium and calcium was higher in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis than in those with lung cancer.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA comparative analysis was made with regard to histologic examination findings of the external respiration function indices in 156 patients with cancer and newly diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis. The given analysis has demonstrated that as compared with pulmonary tuberculosis patients the external respiration function was more disturbed in subjects with a tumor process. This observation mainly concerned the persons with central cancer at the age below 50 and whose ventilation disturbances mostly had an obstructive nature caused by both endobronchial growth of the tumor and a mechanical underflow of the lymph.
