Phospholipid-protein interactions play important roles in regulating the function and morphology of photosynthetic membranes in purple phototrophic bacteria. Here, we characterize the phospholipid composition of intracytoplasmic membrane (ICM) from Rhodobacter (Rba.) sphaeroides that has been genetically altered to selectively express light-harvesting (LH) complexes.

Rhodobacter (Rba.) capsulatus has been a favored model for studies of all aspects of bacterial photosynthesis. This purple phototroph contains PufX, a polypeptide crucial for dimerization of the light-harvesting 1-reaction center (LH1-RC) complex, but lacks protein-U, a U-shaped polypeptide in the LH1-RC of its close relative Rba.

Article Synopsis
  • The androgen receptor (AR) is crucial in prostate cancer development, and while androgen-deprivation therapy is commonly used, it often leads to castration-resistant prostate cancer, indicating a need for new treatment targets.
  • This study utilized innovative proteomic methods to analyze the AR interactome and identified enhanced at puberty 1 (EAP1) as a new AR coregulator that was not detectable with standard techniques.
  • EAP1 enhances AR's transcriptional activity through its E3 ubiquitin ligase function, and its expression is linked to higher AR levels and poorer prognoses in prostate cancer, suggesting its significance in cancer progression.

Background: Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at high risk of HIV infection. However, there are only few data on HIV prevalence in MSM in Japan. The objective of this study was to explore the HIV prevalence in MSM at Shinjuku 2-chome, a well known gay quarter in Tokyo.

Objective: Hypopharyngeal cancer is a head and neck cancer with a poor prognosis, and most cases show metastases on diagnosis. Cervical lymph node (LN) metastasis is a poor prognostic factor in hypopharyngeal cancer patients. The identification of risk factors for LN metastasis can help guide surgical treatment strategies for these patients.
