Peripheral blood smear analysis plays a vital role in diagnosing many diseases including cancer. Leukemia is a type of cancer which begins in bone marrow and results in increased number of white blood cells in peripheral blood. Unusual variations in appearance of white blood cells indicate leukemia.

Female urethral carcinoma is extremely rare and accounts for 0.02% of all women's cancers and <1% of cancers in the female genitourinary tract. Adenocarcinoma accounts for only 10% of urethral carcinomas in females.

The diagnosis is based on the % (≥20%) and absolute number (≥2x10 9 /L) of plasma cells in the peripheral blood. The incidence of primary PCL (pPCL) is very rare and reported to occur in <1 in a million.
