A significant issue encountered in smelting operations is the corrosion of refractory materials that come into direct contact with the molten slag. Magnesia-based refractories are commonly used in nonferrous smelting operations. On the other hand, alumina-based refractories emerge as a possible alternative, particularly when dealing with the unpredictable slag compositions, owing to alumina's amphoteric characteristic.

Background: Agricultural waste sourced from various activities that occur along the agricultural supply chain including post-harvest, processing, and consumption processes, can pose a threat to ecosystem balance and community welfare. Data shows that agricultural by-products have the potential to be utilized because they contain antioxidant compounds. This systematic review study aims to identify and assess the antioxidant activity of agricultural by-products through various extraction methods.

Detecting ammonia at low concentrations is crucial in various fields, including environmental monitoring, industrial processes, and healthcare. This study explores the development and performance of an ultra-sensitive ammonia sensor using carboxylic group-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) overlaid on polyvinyl acetate nanofibers coated on a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). The sensor demonstrates high responsiveness, with a frequency shift response of over 120 Hz when exposed to 1.

Coal-ash-associated problems seriously limit the industrial application of entrained flow coal gasification. There have been many studies of this issue. However, many problems still need to be fully understood, especially regarding the effect of minor oxides and residual carbon on the crystallization of slag in coal ash systems.

Persistent spin texture (PST), a property of solid-state materials maintaining unidirectional spin polarization in the momentum-space, offers a route to deliver the necessary long carrier spin lifetimes through the persistent spin helix (PSH) mechanism. However, most of the discovered PST locally occurred in the small part around certain high symmetry-points or lines in the first Brillouin zone (FBZ), thus limiting the stability of the PSH state. Herein, by symmetry analysis and first-principles calculations, we report the emergence of full-zone PST (FZPST), a phenomenon displaying the PST in the whole FBZ, in the two-dimensional group IV-VA2B2(= Si, Sn, Ge;= Bi, Sb) compounds.
