Evaluation of amprolium and toltrazuril efficacy in controlling natural intestinal rabbit coccidiosis.

This trial was undertaken with the objective to evaluate the efficacy of amprolium, toltrazuril and their combination in rabbits naturally infected with species (32 × 10 ± 4.63 oocysts per gram (OPG) of faeces). Thirty-six rabbits (11 weeks old with average body weight (BW) 2000 ± 75 g), were randomly allocated into six groups (six kits each), namely, negative untreated and was retained as negative control (group 1), infected and kept untreated (group 2), treated with single oral dose of amprolium at 50 mg/kg BW for 5 days (group 3), received toltrazuril at 5 mg/kg BW for 2 days (group 4), treated orally with toltrazuril at 2.

Two new species of coccidia, Eimeria pavota and Eimeria egyptica parasitic in white peacocks, Pavo cristatus (Galliformes: Phasianidae) in Egypt.

Two Eimeria species were identified in faeces collected from a white peacock (Pavo cristatus) housed at the El-Gharbia city park in Egypt, and each is described as a new species. Sporulated oocysts of one species (Eimeria pavota) are ellipsoidal, measuring 23.9 x 16.

Studies on some fish parasites of public health importance in the southern area of Saudi Arabia.

The present study was the first attempt to survey the diversity of fish zoonotic parasites in the southern region of Saudi Arabia, particularly the Najran area, from October 2012 to October 2013. Approximately 163 fish representing seven species (two of freshwater fish and five of marine fish) were examined for fish-borne trematode metacercariae using the compression technique, and for zoonotic nematode larvae. Adult flukes were obtained from cats experimentally infected with the metacercariae on day 25 post-infection The prevalence of each parasite species was recorded.

Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in women in Najran City, Saudi Arabia.

Objectives: To evaluate the seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii among Saudi pregnant women in Najran City, as well as to measure the performance of the diagnostic tests used.

Methods: A total of 96 women attending prenatal special clinics (Oteafyn special clinic) in Najran Province, Saudi Arabia, over a one year period, from September 2012 to September 2013 were screened for the presence of Toxoplasma antibody in their blood serum using an indirect hemagglutination assay (IHA). Specific immunoglobulin (Ig) G and IgM antibodies were evaluated using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Biological aspects on Dictyocaulus arnfieldi.

In the postmortem examination of 54 adult donkeys slaughtered for the carnivore animals in Kafr El-Sheikh Zoological Garden, Dictyocaulus arnfieldi (Cobbold, 1884) Railliet and Henry, 1907 was demonstrated in their lungs. The biological data of the different developmental stages were recorded and discussed, where the period required for maturation, hatching and development of 2nd and 3rd stage larvae was 84 hours, general discussion was given.
