Objective: To quantify the incremental impact that population dispersion has on the number of health personnel in Primary Care in Alto Aragón, using a reproducible method.

Method: Descriptive observational study that compares health the number of health personnel (family medicine, pediatrics and nursing) in EAP and PA emergencies in 2019 in an unpopulated and dispersed territory such as Huesca, with the number that would correspond to it by applying population ratios per professional of hypothetical constructs with different population densities.

Results: Huesca, with respect to the national average, has 39% more PA health personnel.

Objective: The aim of this study was to elucidate the impact of pleural lavage cytology positivity on early recurrence in patients operated on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: This is a multicentre prospective cohort study of 684 patients undergoing an anatomical lung resection for NSCLC between October 2015 and October 2017 at 12 national centres. A pleural lavage was performed before and after lung resection.

Article Synopsis
  • This study introduces a new minimally invasive robotic technique for lung transplantation, performed using a subxiphoid incision in an animal model (sheep).
  • The procedure involved robotic-assisted single lung transplants, successfully completed without complications, highlighting a mean procedure time of 255 minutes.
  • Results indicated that this approach could improve surgical exposure and workflow compared to traditional methods, suggesting further research is needed to assess its safety and feasibility for human patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effect of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) on 90-day mortality rates following lung cancer surgery using a large national cohort.
  • VATS was initially used in 70.2% of patients, showing significantly lower 90-day mortality rates compared to traditional open surgery, but results varied notably depending on the type of analysis conducted.
  • The findings suggest VATS could lower the risk of early mortality, however, concerns about the impact of surgery conversion to thoracotomy and potential hidden biases warrant further investigation.
