Molecular analyses have shown that most defects are caused by point mutations in critical regions of the aldolase B gene. We have performed PCR-based DNA analysis of members of two Norwegian families with hereditary fructose intolerance.

The accuracy of C-reactive protein (CRP) and D-dimer in detecting deep venous thrombosis was compared with phlebography in a consecutive series of 69 patients admitted to hospital due to suspicion of thrombosis in the leg. With a sensitivity of 100%, C-reactive protein can exclude the possibility of thrombosis. The sensitivity of D-dimer was too low to exclude the diagnosis.
