Cerebral microbleeds (CMB) represent a feature of cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD), a prominent vascular contributor to age-related cognitive decline, dementia, and stroke. They are visible as spherical hypointense signals on T2*- or susceptibility-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences. An increasing number of automated CMB detection methods being proposed are based on supervised deep learning (DL).

Our work aimed to evaluate and differentiate the role of ten lncRNA genes (, , , , , , , , , and ) in the development and progression of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). A representative set of clinical samples was used: 140 primary tumors from patients without and with metastases and 59 peritoneal metastases. Using MS-qPCR, we demonstrated an increase in methylation levels of all ten lncRNA genes in tumors compared to normal tissues ( < 0.

Article Synopsis
  • Cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) is a major contributor to stroke and dementia, and currently lacks specific treatments, prompting a study using Mendelian randomization to identify protein associations.
  • The research combined cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma data with genetic studies to identify 49 proteins linked to cSVD, highlighting 16 that appeared in both fluids and showing connections to immune response and extracellular matrix pathways.
  • Notably, many identified proteins were associated with stroke and dementia, with some already having known drug targets, paving the way for potential new biomarkers and therapies for cSVD.

MicroRNAs are small noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression; stabilize the cell phenotype; and play an important role in cell differentiation, development, and apoptosis. A canonical microRNA biogenesis pathway includes several posttranscriptional steps of processing and transport and ends with cytoplasmic cleavage of pre-miRNA by type III ribonuclease DICER to form a mature duplex, which is included in RISC. MicroRNA biogenesis and role in cell stress are still poorly understood.
