Notch signalling activity regulates hematopoiesis in and vertebrates alike. Parasitoid wasp infestation of larvae, however, requires a timely downregulation of Notch activity to allow the formation of encapsulation-active blood cells. Here, we show that the CSL transcription factor Suppressor of Hairless [Su(H)] is phosphorylated at Serine 269 in response to parasitoid wasp infestation.

Brucellosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella, which affects domestic animals and is transmissible to humans. The objective of this study was to evaluate six methods of DNA extraction directly from bovine tissue to detect Brucella spp. The Cq values for all samples were above 30 and varied according to the extraction kit used, but four kits showed no statistical difference in sensitivity.

Plant tissue is composed of many different types of cells. Plant cells required to withstand mechanical pressure, such as vessel elements and fibers, have a secondary cell wall consisting of polysaccharides and lignin, which strengthen the cell wall structure and stabilize the cell shape. Previous attempts to alter the properties of the cell wall have mainly focused on reducing the amount of lignin or altering its structure in order to ease its extraction from raw woody materials for the pulp and paper and biorefinery industries.

The objective of this study was to detect the reasons of rooster's fertility decrease at 50 weeks of age. Therefore, the reproductive system of broiler breeder roosters was laparoscopic, macroscopic and histopathology evaluated, and a comparison of the anatomical aspect with the sperm analysis and birds' age was realized. Cobb roosters (n = 59) were distributed into two groups (30 and 50 weeks).
