Humans have the spontaneous capacity to track the beat of music. Yet some individuals show marked difficulties. To investigate the neural correlates of this condition known as beat deafness, the cortical electric activity of ten beat-deaf adults, the largest cohort studied so far, as well as of 14 matched controls (Experiment 2), and 16 university students (Experiment 1) were examined.

As clinical trials in oncology require substantial efforts, maximizing the insights gained from them by conducting subgroup analyses is often attempted. The goal of these analyses is to identify subgroups of patients who are likely to benefit, as well as the subgroups of patients who are unlikely to benefit from the studied intervention. International guidelines occasionally include or exclude novel medications and technologies for specific subpopulations based on such analyses of pivotal trials without requiring confirmatory trials.

Article Synopsis
  • A real-world study assessed the benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy (CT) in early-stage breast cancer patients with a Recurrence Score (RS) of 26-30, using data from 534 patients.
  • The study found that, despite imbalances in risk factors between CT-treated and untreated groups, overall survival (OS) and distant recurrence-free survival (DRFS) were similar for N0 patients regardless of treatment.
  • In N1mi/N1 patients, while OS and DRFS were comparable between treatment groups, a notable difference in breast cancer-specific mortality (BCSM) was observed, indicating a potential benefit of CT for those patients.

Amplification of weak microwave signals with minimal added noise is of importance to science and technology. Artificial quantum systems, based on superconducting circuits, can now amplify and detect even single microwave photons. However, this requires operating at millikelvin temperatures.
