Necrotizing Laryngitis in Patients with Hematologic Disease: The First Case-Report Due to PDR and Literature Review.

Immunocompromised patients with hematologic diseases may experience life-threatening infections with rather uncommon manifestations. Laryngitis has been described as a potential infection in such vulnerable patients and may result in major complications, ranging from impending airway obstruction to total laryngeal necrosis. Immediate laryngoscopy is of paramount importance, as it provides quantification of laryngeal edema and evidence of necrosis.

Tenofovir-Induced Fanconi Syndrome Presenting with Life-Threatening Hypokalemia: Review of the Literature and Recommendations for Early Detection.

Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor that has been widely used for the treatment of patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections. Despite the excellent safety records of this regimen, a few cases of acute renal failure and Fanconi syndrome have been reported among HIV patients exposed to TDF. However, in the HBV monoinfection scenario, only five cases of TDF-associated Fanconi syndrome have been reported thus far, two of them providing a confirmatory kidney biopsy.

Colon Adenoma Implicating Myasthenia Gravis: A Case Report of a Patient with Postcolectomy Complications.

We report the case of a 63-year-old patient with myasthenia gravis (MG) due to acetylcholine receptor antibodies (AChR) who underwent colectomy due to colon adenoma and developed myasthenic crisis and anastomosis leakage after surgery. The patient underwent two plasma exchanges, 4 and 6 days preoperatively, and received intravenous prednisolone and immunoglobulin infusion due to the crisis, which included primarily bulbar symptoms. The patient developed on the 10th postoperative day bowel obstruction symptoms and anastomosis leakage which required surgical repair and ileostomy.
