  • Mitochondria play a crucial role in early embryo development by providing energy through mitochondrial DNA, particularly during the transition from oocyte to embryo.
  • This study compared the expression of specific genes related to mitophagy and apoptosis in the culture fluids of embryos from different patient groups, including those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and varying ovarian reserves.
  • The findings suggest that analyzing the gene expressions in embryo culture fluids can offer insights into mitochondrial dysfunction and cellular health in female infertility without invasive procedures.
