Asymmetrical distribution of acute lung injury in mechanically ventilated patients can result in a heterogeneity of gas distribution between different regions, potentially worsening ventilation-perfusion matching. Furthermore, overdistension of healthier, more compliant lung regions can lead to barotrauma and limit the effect of increased PEEP on lung recruitment. We propose a System for Asymmetric Flow Regulation (SAFR) which, combined with a novel double lumen endobronchial tube (DLT) may offer individualized lung ventilation to the left and right lungs, better matching each lung's mechanics and pathophysiology.

We evaluated the utility and cost-savings of pooled testing based on imperfect test performance and potential dilution effect due to pooling and created a practical calculator for online use.
Methods: We developed a 2-stage pooled testing model accounting for dilution.
Decision-makers need signals for action as the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic progresses. Our aim was to demonstrate a novel use of statistical process control to provide timely and interpretable displays of COVID-19 data that inform local mitigation and containment strategies. Healthcare and other industries use statistical process control to study variation and disaggregate data for purposes of understanding behavior of processes and systems and intervening on them.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective, observational cohort study of 112 inpatient adults diagnosed with COVID-19 between March 12 and April 16, 2020. Data were manually extracted from electronic medical records.
