Three divisions of the mouse caudal striatum differ in the proportions of dopamine D1 and D2 receptor-expressing cells, distribution of dopaminergic axons, and composition of cholinergic and GABAergic interneurons.

The greater part of the striatum is composed of striosomes and matrix compartments, but we recently demonstrated the presence of a region that has a distinct structural organization in the ventral half of the mouse caudal striatum (Miyamoto et al. in Brain Struct Funct 223:4275-4291, 2018). This region, termed the tri-laminar part based upon its differential immunoreactivities for substance P and enkephalin, consists of medial, intermediate, and lateral divisions.

Chronic renal failure due to amyloid nephropathy caused by chronic infection after total hip replacement.

A 75-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of proteinuria, pitting edema on the foot, and renal impairment. She had undergone total hip replacement (THR) for femoral neck fracture at the age of 66. Nine years later, she met with an accident during farming and was treated at an emergency hospital for severe general trauma.

Elevated serum levels of interleukin-10 in children with acute rubella infection.

Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is known to be an anti-inflammatory cytokine which inhibits cell growth and cytokine production of both Th1 and Th2 cells.
