Chitosan-based gelatinous affinity sorbent containing 9 mg/ml of polymyxin B was injected into the infected peritoneal cavity for twenty-four hours for detoxification in diffuse peritonitis. The clinical assay of blood plasma (Spectrum Abbot, USA) revealed that the lavage of the infected abdomen by polymyxin B-containing adsorbent resulted in systemic detoxification. The effect was associated with normalization of direct bilirubin, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, a 4-fold decrease in uric acid levels, and a 34-fold increase in alkaline phosphatase activity, and a greater than 70-fold enhancement of hepatic aspartate aminotransferase activity.

In the paper antistaphylococcus and polymixine liquid sorbents are used to lavage infected rat abdominal cavity against gram-positive and gram-negative microfloral toxins. Sorbents have been revealed to remove erythrocyte antigens from the surface, that are affine to immobilized ligands on the matrix. Polymyxine affine sorbent arises quality of the usual lavage of the infected abdomen.

The immunocorrective effect of antistaphylococcal adsorbent prepared on the basis of silochrome, a silica matrix, has been revealed in experiments on peripheral blood lymphocytes obtained from 18 donors. The expression of receptors on human immunoregulating cells has been suppressed by the addition of staphylotoxin at a toxic concentration into the system. The experiments have shown that immunosorption is capable of extracting the toxin from the solution to a considerable degree, thus preventing the suppression of the receptor apparatus of immunoregulating lymphocytes.
