: The present study aims to investigate the association between gut microbiota's oxalate-degrading activity (ODA) and the risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) over a three-year follow-up period in a cohort of patients undergoing kidney replacement therapy (KRT). Additionally, various factors were examined to gain insight into the potential mechanisms underlying the ODA-CVD link. : A cohort of 32 KRT patients and 18 healthy volunteers was enrolled in this prospective observational pilot study.

Multidrug-Resistant Causing Severe Infections in the Neuro-ICU.

The purpose of this study was the identification of genetic lineages and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and virulence genes in isolates associated with severe infections in the neuro-ICU. Susceptibility to antimicrobials was determined using the Vitek-2 instrument. AMR and virulence genes, sequence types (STs), and capsular types were identified by PCR.

SCN1A mutation spectrum in a cohort of Bulgarian patients with GEFS+ phenotype.

Background: Dravet syndrome (DS) is the most severe form of Generalized Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures plus (GEFS+) syndrome with a clear genetic component in 85% of the cases. It is characterized by fever-provoked seizure onset around six months of age and subsequent developmental deterioration later in life.

Methods: In the current study, 60 patients with fever-provoked seizures and suspicion either of GEFS+ (50 patients) or of DS (10 patients) were referred for SCN1A gene sequence analysis.
