Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are associated with disturbed mineral homeostasis and serum bone biomarkers. The interplay between T2DM and CKD on serum bone turnover markers (BTM) is unclear. Our aim was to describe the BTM in patients with T2DM, CKD or both.

Challenges in Utilization of Osteoporosis Healthcare Services during COVID-19 Pandemic in Romania - a Nationwide Population Study.

This study compares the utilization of osteoporosis and osteoporosis complication healthcare services before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in Romania. The descriptive nationwide population study has used secondary data collected from the national health information system. We have calculated and compared the procedures performed for osteoporosis diagnosis and screening, standardized incidence and hospitalization rate for osteoporosis and osteoporosis fractures before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Overall Survival of Patients with Aggressive Thyroid Cancer on Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy Examination. A Tertiary Romanian Center Experience.

Aim: Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC), poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma (PTDC) and lymphoma are aggressive forms of neoplasia. Although all carry a poor prognosis there is an important heterogeneity of overall survival (OS) between individual patients. The decision of total thyroidectomy is often based on fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) which has important limitations in this setting.

The evaluation of the periodontium in patients with leukemia using thermographic imaging.

The microbial etiology of gingivitis and marginal periodontitis is unanimously accepted, but several other factors have to be considered. There are many systemic conditions with unvarying manifestations at the level of the gums and deep periodontium; leukemias have varying rates of development, and in most cases a reserved prognosis. In leukemias, periodontal lesions are caused by various microbial factors, coupled with immunological modifications characteristic of the systemic condition and sometimes exacerbated by loco-regional leukocyte infiltration.

Evidence for immune defects in breast and lung cancer patients.

Immunosuppression is often identified in cancer patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate several immune parameters for patients with breast and lung cancer. Immunophenotyping analysis showed that the cancer patients investigated had significantly lower absolute numbers of peripheral blood lymphocytes than controls.
