[Broich, Fränkel and Harke: History of the German rhinological contribution to nasal irrigation].

Based on the freely available literature, the development of the nasal rinsers according to Broich, Fränkel and Harke is presented. The nasal rinsing as a therapeutic measure, the therapeutic agents used and the personal history of the respective developer are discussed.

[Inner ear hearing loss following cerebrospinal fluid puncture: a too little appreciated complication?].

Lumbar puncture for myelography, spinal anaesthesia and aspiration of cerebrospinal fluid is a very common procedure. Although it has been known for a long time that hearing impairment may be a late complication, only a few case reports have been published, and not all have included audiograms. We present nine cases of hearing loss following myelography, lumbar puncture and spinal anaesthesia.

[A comparison of digital luminescence radiography and conventional radiodiagnosis in sialography].

In 25 patients sialographies were obtained by both conventional film-screen system combinations and computed radiography (CR), the digital exposure dose being 50% of the conventional one. In CR two differently post processed images were obtained from one x-ray exposure: one "conventionally" processed image resembling a conventional film-screen system combination and a complementary "enhanced" image showing a higher edge enhancement at the same spatial resolution. CR proved to be equivalent to conventional radiography despite the reduction in exposure dose.
