Intravenous Drug Abuser Treated for Chronic Infected Open Forearm Fracture with Shortening and Primary Wound Closure.

Neglected and open forearm fracture wounds accompanied by shortening are complex injuries that are seldom reported in the known literature. We describe a patient with a history of chronic intravenous drug abuse (IVDA) and a neglected forearm wound with radius and ulna fractures with chronic osteomyelitis managed by limb salvage. The patient had a history of IVDA and a neglected forearm wound with fractures in both the radius and ulna, along with chronic osteomyelitis.

Limb salvage results of Gustilo IIIC fractures of the lower extremity.

This study aims to present our results for limb salvage in Gustilo IIIC open fractures of the femur and tibia. 92 patients with Gustilo IIIC fractures operated in our clinic between January 2000 and March 2016 were retrospectively evaluated. Demographic data, ischemia time, method of arterial repair, means of primary and secondary fixation, time to amputation, complications, and final VAS scores were recorded.

Impact of dedicated neuro-anesthesia management on clinical outcomes in glioblastoma patients: A single-institution cohort study.

Background: Glioblastomas are mostly resected under general anesthesia under the supervision of a general anesthesiologist. Currently, it is largely unkown if clinical outcomes of GBM patients can be improved by appointing a neuro-anesthesiologist for their cases. We aimed to evaluate whether the assignment of dedicated neuro-anesthesiologists improves the outcomes of these patients.

Are Patients With End-Stage Arthritis Willing to Delay Arthroplasty for Payer-Mandated Physical Therapy?

Background: Payer coverage policies have recently begun requiring physical therapy (PT) prior to total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). It remains controversial if such a mandate is appropriate for patients with end-stage, symptomatic osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study is to assess if such patients are amenable to delaying surgery for a trial of PT.

Background: As a procedure with lower surgical morbidity, unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) may present a practical solution for elderly patients with unicompartmental arthritis. However, few studies have analyzed the results of UKA in the extreme elderly. This study compared the functional and perioperative outcomes between octogenarians and age-appropriate controls undergoing UKA.
