Second-harmonic generation (SHG) plays a significant role in modern photonic technology. Integrated photonic resonators fabricated with thin-film lithium niobate can achieve ultrahigh efficiencies by combining small mode volumes with high material nonlinearity. Cavity-enhanced SHG requires accurate phase and frequency matching conditions, where fundamental and second-harmonic wavelengths are both on resonance.

Lithium niobate with periodic poling is the most widely used material for frequency mixing due to its strong second-order nonlinear coefficient. The recent development using nanophotonic lithium niobate waveguides promises to improve nonlinear efficiencies by orders of magnitude thanks to subwavelength optical confinement.

Visible-telecom tunable dual-band optical isolator based on dynamic modulation in thin-film lithium niobate.

Optical isolators are an essential component of photonic systems. Current integrated optical isolators have limited bandwidths due to stringent phase-matching conditions, resonant structures, or material absorption. Here, we demonstrate a wideband integrated optical isolator in thin-film lithium niobate photonics.

Framing and Policymaker Evaluations of the Opioid Crisis.

Several extremely influential theories, including the multiple streams approach and punctuated equilibrium theory, predict that dramatic policy change occurs when problems are reframed. However, there is little direct evidence of how framing messages influence policymaker attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors. In an online survey of local policymakers in Illinois, we find that different media frames of the opiate epidemic influence policymaker attitudes and attributions of responsibility.
