The antagonistic effect of enterocin CCM 4231 towards enterococci, staphylococci, Escherichia coli, listeriae and pseudomonads in the cattle slurry environment was assessed during periods of 1 and 2 weeks. The maximum decrease in the viable cells of enterococci and staphylococci (5.39 to 1.

A group of 14 improved Valashka lambs, aged 4 months, body weight 14-16 kg, were used in the experiment studying the effect of subchronic heavy metal intoxication on the course of experimental fasciolosis (Fasciola hepatica). The animals were divided into two groups, each of 7 lambs, 3 lambs--ewes and 4 lambs--rams. Each animal in group I was given orally for 27 days gelatinous capsules containing heavy metal emissions of the following composition: 4.

Peroxidative lesions of cells and production of free radicals from endo- and exogenous reasons, eg. due to air pollution, can result in severe lesions of cells and subsequent pathological processes (Rieger, 1992; Robbins and Cotran, 1988). A pentose cycle plays an important role in the system of antioxidative protection: glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD; EC 1.

The effect of oral dosing with emissions containing heavy metals (mercury, lead, copper, cadmium, zinc and chromium) on immune status was tested in 3 groups of sheep. Two groups (Groups I and II) were given emissions for 15 d. One of these groups (Group I) was then also infested with Fasciola hepatica metacercaria on day 16.

A group of 30 improved Valashka sheep, grazed in submontane pastures 3 and 6 km far from the emission source of mercury-dominated heavy metals (L1 and L2) and in pasture situated out of mercury emission fall-out (K), were investigated for the prevalence and mean intensity of pasture helminth infection. Hg concentration in the grass stand was determined by the distance of emission source. The amount of mercury was increasing in the direction from control locality to locality 1, lying 3 km from the emission source.
