Gliomas are highly aggressive primary brain tumors, with glioblastoma multiforme being the most severe and the most common one. Aberrations in sphingolipid metabolism are a hallmark of glioma cells. The sphingolipid rheostat represents the balance between the pro-apoptotic ceramide and pro-survival sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), and in gliomas it is shifted toward cell survival and proliferation, promoting gliomas' aggressiveness, cellular migration, metastasis, and invasiveness.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is frequently diagnosed in the advanced stages. The purpose of this paper is to determine the salivary values of SCCA1, SCCA2 and TROP2 in patients with T1N0M0 OSCC and to compare them with the values obtained from healthy individuals. Unstimulated (UWS) and stimulated (SWS) saliva was sampled from 29 patients with T1N0M0 OSCC and 29 sex- and age-matched healthy individuals.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the moderating effect of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) gene variants on the association of serum C-reactive protein level (CRP) and ischemic stroke (IS).

Material And Methods: A total of 114 patients with IS and 135 healthy controls were included.

Results: After adjustment for age, sex, total cholesterol, LDL and HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, hypertension, smoking, body mass index and previous therapy with antihypertensive and/or statins, PPAR-γ had statistically significant moderating effect on association of serum CRP level and IS in patients younger than 60.

Gangliosides serve as antitumor therapy targets and aberrations in their composition strongly correlate with tumor growth and invasiveness. Anaplastic ganglioglioma is a rare, poorly characterized, malignant neuronal-glial tumor type. We present the first comparative characterization of ganglioside composition in anaplastic ganglioglioma vs.
