In current orthopedic practice, bone implants used to-date often exhibit poor osteointegration, impaired osteogenesis, and, eventually, implant failure. Actively pursued strategies for tissue engineering could overcome these shortcomings by developing new hybrid materials with bioinspired structure and enhanced regenerative potential. In this study, the osteogenic and therapeutic potential of bioactive vaterite is investigated as a functional component of a fibrous polymeric scaffold for bone regeneration.

(1) Background: to ensure satisfactory outcomes in patients who have undergone total hip or knee replacement, it is crucial to prioritize postoperative rehabilitation process and its management rather than the successful surgery alone. The goal of our study was to investigate the outcomes of rehabilitation process after the total hip or knee replacement, including local orthopedic follow-up, communication with local health authorities, patients' satisfaction regarding rehabilitation, and their functional performance after the surgery. (2) Methods: the study included 523 patients who underwent total hip replacement, and 650 patients who underwent total knee replacement.

The review considers complex, controversial, and individual effects of heparin and its derivatives on the bone and circulatory systems in dependence of the dose, the state of the cells and tissues of the recipient. General data on the anticoagulant activity of heparin and its derivatives are presented; special attention is paid to the effect of heparin on mesenchymal cells and tissues and its role in angiogenesis. We also discuss the ability of heparin to bind osteogenic and angiogenic biomolecules in the context of the development of systems for their delivery and sustained controlled release and propose a schematic representation of the positive and side effects of heparin as a delivery system for biomolecules in tissue engineering.

Background: Molecular genetic mechanisms, signaling pathways, conditions, factors, and markers of the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are being actively studied and are among the most studied areas in the field of cellular technology. This attention is largely due to the mounting contradictions in the seemingly classical knowledge and the constant updating of results in the analyzed areas. In this regard, we focus on the main classical concepts and some new factors and mechanisms that have a noticeable regulatory effect on the differentiation potential of postnatal MSCs.

High biofilm-forming capacity of Staphylococcus spp. strains isolated from biomaterial of patients with infectious complications after primary knee replacement developed within 6-12 months after surgery was experimentally demonstrated. Differential leukocyte counts and some indicators of cell immunity in these patients were compared with those in patients without purulent complications and healthy volunteers.
