Since its discovery as a causative gene of the Immunodeficiency with Centromeric instability and Facial anomalies syndrome, ZBTB24 has emerged as a key player in DNA methylation, immunity and development. By extensively analyzing ZBTB24 genomic functions in ICF-relevant mouse and human cellular models, we document here its multiple facets as a transcription factor, with key roles in immune response-related genes expression and also in early embryonic development. Using a constitutive Zbtb24 ICF-like mutant and an auxin-inducible degron system in mouse embryonic stem cells, we showed that ZBTB24 is recruited to centromeric satellite DNA where it is required to establish and maintain the correct DNA methylation patterns through the recruitment of DNMT3B.

The early-stage diagnosis of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) has significantly increased in incidence worldwide without any beneficial impact on survival. In order to improve the risk assessment in PTC, we have conducted a retrospective study in which we analyzed the BRAF V600E mutation and CPSF2 protein expression as prognostic markers on archival tissue samples of 49 patients without (control group) and 97 patients with (study group) PTC metastases in the cervical lymph nodes at the time of initial diagnosis. Our aim was to correlate the BRAF V600E mutation and the expression of CPSF2 protein with the clinical and pathological features of PTC.

Locally invasive papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) protrudes beyond the thyroid capsule and invades local structures. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their inhibitors (TIMPs) are implicated in local invasion and metastasis in PTC. The aim of our study was to determine expression levels of MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 in tissue specimens of invasive and non-invasive PTC.

Lowering the constitutive domains of semiconducting oxides to the nano-range has recently opened up the possibility of added benefit in the research area of sensing materials, in terms both of greater specific surface area and pore volume. Among such nanomaterials, ceria has attracted much attention; therefore, we chemically derived homogeneous ceria nanoparticle slurries. One set of samples was tape-casted onto a conducting glass substrate to form thin-films of various thicknesses, thereby avoiding demanding reaction conditions typical of physical depositions, while the other was pressed into pellets.
