In the brain, histone acetylation underlies both learning and the maintenance of long-term sustained effects of early experience which is further epigenetically inherited. However, the role of acetylation in learning previously has only been studied in adult animals: high level of learning could be dependent on high levels of histone H3 acetylation in the brain. The role of acetylation in the mechanisms of early learning has not been studied.

The ontogeny of defensive behavior of laboratory rodents underlying many experimental models has been still poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the age-related features of behavior of 8- and 12-day-old laboratory mice in response to presentation of the predator odor using olfactory discrimination method and determination of sleep and wakefulness states. Transcription factor c-Fos was used as a molecular marker to map the activity of the reticular formation.

Comparative analysis of the dynamics of somatic and sensorimotor development was performed in Wistar rat pups subjected to short (30 min) and long (180 min) daily maternal separations in the first 10 days after birth. Somatic and sensorimotor development in the pre-weaning period in rat pups subjected to the long maternal separations was shown to be considerably slower than in those subjected to the short removals from the nest. The most significant delay in the formation of sensorimotor reactions occurred in the second half of pre-weaning period.

The topical problem of experimental neurobiology is the development of pharmacological models to search for correlation between induced brain pathology and changes in behavioral phenotype. Cytosine arabinoside (Ara-c) is an antiproliferative agent, exposure to which in the critical period of the embryonic formation of the cortex results in the abnormality of its development. This study was aimed at estimation of the somatic and sensorimotor aspects of the early postnatal maturatrion of behavioral acts in mice with developmental abnormalities of the cortex induced by Ara-c.

The early organization was studied of the littermate search functional system. The locomotor elements of exploratory behavior and development of social activity of single rat pups and in groups of three ones were analyzed under conditions of their isolation from mother and nest. The influence was demonstrated of the littermate presence on realization of different types of movements.
