An urgent issue is the preservation or reconstruction of the volume of bone tissue in planning and surgical treatment in the fields of medicine, such as traumatology, orthopedics, maxillofacial surgery and dentistry. After tooth extraction, resorption of the bone tissue of the alveolar crest of the jaws occurs, which must either be further eliminated by performing additional operations or using osteoplastic material for socket preservation at the extraction stage. The aim of the study was a comparative analysis of various osteoplastic materials used to preserve the volume of bone tissue in the preimplantation period.

Article Synopsis
  • - Bone defects and poor fracture healing represent a growing health issue, with gene therapy emerging as a promising method for improving bone regeneration; however, existing studies mainly focus on small animal models, which don't fully mimic complex fracture conditions.
  • - Recent investigations into orthopedic gene therapy in large animal models show generally positive results, but methodological inconsistencies make comparisons challenging, and critical factors for clinical application are often overlooked.
  • - The review emphasizes the need for improved methodologies and comprehensive safety data to facilitate the clinical translation of gene therapy for bone repair, while outlining current research efforts and suggesting ways to address existing gaps.

The study assessed reactivity of stromal-vascular skeletal muscle differons to acute chemical injury. Dysferlin-deficient Bla/J mice and the wild-type С57BL/6 mice were intramuscularly injected with 100 μl of 0.5% procaine solution.

Bone grafting and reconstruction are still challenging in clinical practice because of the limitations of bone autografts and the drawbacks of currently approved bone substitutes. We thus developed a gene-activated bone substitute based on octacalcium phosphate and naked plasmid DNA carrying the vascular endothelial growth factor gene. This advanced combined therapy medicinal product had no cytotoxic effects , slightly decreased bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) doubling time, and was characterized by a prolonged level of gene construct delivery in a luciferase bioimaging assay.

The aim of the study was the development of three-dimensional (3D) printed gene-activated implants based on octacalcium phosphate (OCP) and plasmid DNA encoding . The first objective of the present work involved design and fabrication of gene-activated bone substitutes based on the OCP and plasmid DNA with gene using 3D printing approach of ceramic constructs, providing the control of its architectonics compliance to the initial digital models. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and compressive strength analyses were applied to investigate the chemical composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the experimental samples.
