Objective: To identify valid parameters of heart rate variability (HRV) and musculoskeletal movements based on ballistocardiography data, which allow predicting the sleep efficiency (SE) index in healthy individuals and patients with insomnia.

Material And Methods: Ten healthy individuals and 14 patients with chronic insomnia were examined using polysomnography and ballistocardiography. A regression analysis of the data was carried out, as well as a reliability check of the resulting mathematical model.

Purpose: The environmental conditions in space, particularly exposure to cosmic radiation, coupled with decreased mobility, altered glucose metabolism, and hemodynamic changes may promote cardiovascular disease Therefore, we assessed early vascular aging markers and hemodynamics using a novel oscillometric blood pressure device.

Methodology: In eight cosmonauts (46.5 ± 5.

3D-body accelerations, i.e. Ballistocardiograms (BCG) and Seismocardiograms (SCG), ECG and Impedance-cardiograms (ICG) were recorded on healthy volunteers participating to the European Space Agency (ESA) 59th parabolic flight campaign.

In the past decade, there has been a resurgence in the field of unobtrusive cardiomechanical assessment, through advancing methods for measuring and interpreting ballistocardiogram (BCG) and seismocardiogram (SCG) signals. Novel instrumentation solutions have enabled BCG and SCG measurement outside of clinical settings, in the home, in the field, and even in microgravity. Customized signal processing algorithms have led to reduced measurement noise, clinically relevant feature extraction, and signal modeling.

The transthoracic impedance cardiogram (ICG) and the acceleration ballistocardiogram (BCG) measured close to the center of mass of the human body are generated by changes of blood distribution. The transthoracic ICG is an integrated signal covering the whole thorax and spatial resolution is poor. Comparison between both signals can be used to elucidate the source of the ICG signal.
